Glossary product name User-configurable identifier assigned to a managed product. Typically, this name is stored on the product itself. For the director, the product name can also be accessed by an SNMP manager as the system name. prohibited port connection In S/390 operating mode, an attribute that removes dynamic connectivity capability. R_A_TOV See resource allocation time-out value. redundancy Performance characteristic of a system or product whose integral components are backed up by identical components to which operations will automatically failover in the event of a component failure. Redundancy is a vital characteristic of virtually all high-availability (24 hours per day, seven days per week) computer systems and networks. remote access link Connection to a device or program on a computer network via a (geographically) remote workstation. remote notification A process by which a system is able to inform remote users and/or workstations of certain classes of events that occur on the system. E-mail notification and the configuration of SNMP trap recipients are two examples of remote notification programs that can be implemented on director-class switches. remote user workstation Workstation, such as a PC, using the HAFM and Product Manager applications, which can access the HAFM server over a LAN connection. resource allocation time-out value (R_A_TOV) - User-specified value used to time out operations that depend on the maximum possible time that a frame could be delayed in a fabric and still be delivered. RFI Acronym for radio frequency interface. RFI shield Radio frequency interface shield (S/390 mode only). SAN See storage area network.
