Preparing the Host System Completing a New RAID Array Configuration This section summarizes how to use the Windows NT Disk Administrator, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) Disk Management to complete a new subsystem configuration. For additional information, refer to your Windows NT/Windows 2000/Windows Server 2003 documentation. Note: Before you begin, remember to back up your system using normal back up procedures. . Understanding the Disk Administrator and Disk Management Displays Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 use the Disk Management program, while Windows NT uses the Disk Administrator program. They both create a "Bar Chart" display of your disk configuration. Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) names the various devices that were created using the subsystem. Each disk device found by Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) is given a name; for example, Disk 0, Disk 1, and so on. There should be an entry shown for each disk (JBOD) or storageset created. Windows NT, Windows 2000 and and Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) assigns disk names based on the order in which the system drivers "find" disks during Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) boot. The Windows NT host system uses a special disk class driver (HszDisk.SYS) that connects to all HSG80 disks before any other disks present in the system are connected. Therefore, the first entries in the Disk Administrator display should represent all your subsystem logical volumes. Verifying your Configuration ■ To verify your configuration in Windows 2000 check in the Windows Event Viewer that the Hsz/HsxDisk successfully loaded. ■ To verify your configuration with the Disk Management program perform the following actions: - Verify that there is an entry in the Disk Management display for each of your subsystem volumes. If there is not, you should go back and recheck your configuration. 120 HSG80 ACS Solution Software V8.8 for Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) Installation and Configuration Guide
