Preparing the Host System 3-11 KGPSA Driver Support The KGPSA is the PCI Fibre Channel adapter that is supported with the Enterprise Storage RAID Array Fibre Channel RAID System. Because the Fibre Channel Software Setup utility can only modify existing KGPSA registry settings, the driver from the supplied floppy must be installed prior to running the Fibre Channel Setup Utility (reference the section "Installing the KGPSA Adapter Device Driver," page 3-6). The Fibre Channel Setup Utility changes the KGPSA driver registry settings and copies an updated version of the driver to the driver's directory to ensure proper operational use of the KGPSA Fibre Channel host adapter with the Enterprise Storage RAID Array Fibre Channel system. These registry settings are required for both single host and Windows NT/Windows 2000 Cluster configurations. Fibre Channel Switch The Fibre Channel Setup Utility makes all the driver changes to support fabric topology automatically. Fibre Channel Hub Fibre Channel Software Setup also requires you to select an Arbitrated Loop Physical Address (ALPA) when configured in a FC-AL Topology. StorageWorks supports up to four servers on the same Arbitrated Loop and recommends using the low numbers ALPAs for each Windows NT/Windows 2000 Server (or KGPSA adapter). Each server must have a unique ALPA. The recommendation follows: NT/2000 Server Server 1 Server 2 Server 3 Server 4 ALPA Assignment 1 2 4 8 NOTE: ALPA assignments are not applicable to a Fibre Channel Switch configuration.
