To upgrade already-installed MSA1500 and this new MSA1500 to active/active: When adding this new MSA1500 to a SAN with existing active/passive MSA1500 and/or other array controllers, first migrate all existing servers and MSA1500 to active/active, and then install and upgrade this new MSA1500. 1. Go to the MSA1500 website: http://www.hp.com/go/msa1500cs. 2. From the Software, firmware & drivers page, obtain the following: • active/active version Support Software CD ISO image (burn the ISO image to a blank CD) • active/active version controller firmware files or ISO image • release notes for the Support Software CD and the firmware files 3. From the Technical documents page, obtain the following: • Migration instructions for your operating system (Windows, Linux, and HP-UX only; OpenVMS and Tru64 UNIX are newly supported operating systems, so there are no already-installed MSA1500 to migrate.) • Installation guide (October 2006 or later) • Firmware updating guide 4. Upgrade any existing MSA from active/passive to active/active as described in the migration instructions, including: • Complete all prerequisites. • Upgrade the servers and any existing active/passive MSA to active/active. 5. Install and configure the new MSA as described in the installation guide. When instructed: • Install MSA components on the servers using the Support Software CD created in step 2. • Upgrade the firmware on the MSA using the files obtained in step 2 and the firmware updating guide obtained in step 3. To use the pre-installed active/passive firmware: 1. Locate the following documents, shipped with the MSA: • Configuration overview poster • Installation guide 2. Install and configure the MSA as described in the installation documents. When instructed, upgrade to the latest version of active/passive firmware. Do not upgrade to active/active. 3
