Printed in China www.hp.com *590335-003* About this document This document is for the person who installs, administers, and troubleshoots servers and storage systems. HP assumes that you are qualified in servicing and installing computer equipment, and are trained in recognizing hazards in products and hazardous energy levels. For complete information on installing and configuring your product, please see the user guide provided with your HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA System. User documents are provided on the Software Support/Documentation CD shipped with the product. For the latest version of a document, see the HP Manuals website:http://www.hp.com/ support/manuals. This document contains installation and configuration information for HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA Systems containing the following controllers: • HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA Fibre Channel Controller • HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA FC/iSCSI Controller The following steps for installing the P2000 G3 MSA System are included in this document: • Install and secure equipment into the rack • Install hardware options • Connect cables • Power on the components • Configure the MSA Install and secure equipment in the rack Use the racking instructions provided with your P2000 G3 MSA enclosure and other hardware (including servers and drive enclosures) to install the components in the rack. Site requirements For information about detailed site requirements see the racking instructions poster and user guide. Rack planning For information about setting up the rack, including the appropriate warnings and cautions, see the documentation that came with your rack. Updated rack information can be downloaded at: http://www.hp.com/ products/racks. Install hardware options For information about installing disk drives and other options, see the installation instructions provided with the option or on the Software Support/Documentation CD. IMPORTANT: Do not install a P2000 G3 MSA Fibre Channel Controller and P2000 G3 MSA FC/iSCSI Controller in the same chassis. This is not a supported configuration. For the complete list of supported cable/controller configurations, see the HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA System cable configuration guide which can be downloaded at http://www.hp.com/support/manuals. Depending on your environment, see the following cable connection sections: • Connect drive enclosures to the P2000 G3 MSA System • Connect remote management hosts to the network • Connect the P2000 G3 MSA System to servers Connect drive enclosures to the P2000 G3 MSA System The P2000 G3 MSA System supports four models of drive enclosures: • HP StorageWorks P2000 6Gb 3.5" 12-drive enclosure • HP StorageWorks D2700 6Gb drive enclosure • HP StorageWorks MSA2000 3Gb 3.5" 12-drive enclosure • HP StorageWorks MSA70 3Gb drive enclosure Observe the following guidelines when connecting drive enclosures to the P2000 G3 MSA System: • Use only supported SAS 4x cables. • Mini-SAS to mini-SAS 0.5m cables are provided with the P2000 6Gb 3.5" 12-drive enclosure, D2700 6Gb drive enclosure, and MSA70 3Gb drive enclosure (one per controller). • SAS to SAS 0.6m cables are provided with the MSA2000 3Gb 3.5" 12-drive enclosure (one per I/O module). • Longer cables than those supplied with the enclosure must be purchased separately. See the MSA Quick Specs for details. • The maximum length cable allowed in any configuration is 2m. • A maximum of eight (8) enclosures (including the array enclosure) OR one hundred forty-nine (149) drives are allowed in the array configuration. This document does not include configuration information or illustrations for connecting the P2000 G3 to multiple drive enclosures. For information on these configurations, see the HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA System cable configuration guide. NOTE: Mixing 3Gb drive enclosures with 6Gb controller enclosures or drive enclosures may result in data throughput at the lower 3Gbps data rate, depending on the configuration. For complete information on data throughput rate limitations, see the HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA System cable configuration guide.
