1 Capacity Upgrade Introduction The HP StoreOnce 4500/4700 Capacity Upgrade Kit increases the storage capacity of your HP StoreOnce Backup system. It contains an enclosure with 12 x 2 TB disks and three cables, and is for use with HP StoreOnce 4500 and 4700 Backup systems. A 1-meter cable is supplied to connect the expansion shelf to the head unit and two half-meter cables are supplied for daisy chaining shelves on HP StoreOnce 4700 Backup systems that already have upgrade kits installed. NOTE: Only one Upgrade Kit may be installed with the HP 4500 Backup system. For the HP StoreOnce 4700 Backup system, one expansion shelf must be installed at the same time as the head unit. Up to seven further expansion shelves may be installed at the same time or added later. Planning for the Capacity Upgrade IMPORTANT: The addition of storage is an online operation; this means that additional storage may be added while backups/restores are in progress. However, the new capacity will not be available until the expansion process completes and there may be a performance impact on backup/restore operations during the process. With the HP StoreOnce 4500 Backup system expansion can take up to two hours. For the HP StoreOnce 4700 Backup system it can take up to two hours per expansion enclosure, but it is usually a lot quicker than this. Make sure that host users are aware of the expansion process and check to see how any scheduled jobs, such as replication and tape backup, may be affected by decreased performance. Overview of the Upgrade process 1. Install the rails for the Upgrade Kit, which should be located directly below or above the HP StoreOnce Backup system; see "Installing the Rails" (page 6). 2. Install the Upgrade Kit; see "Installing the Upgrade Kit" (page 7). 3. Connect the Upgrade Kit to the HP StoreOnce Backup system; see "Connecting the Capacity Upgrade Kit" (page 7). 4. Power on the Upgrade Kit. 5. Make sure you have both the HP entitlement order number (supplied with the Upgrade Kit) and the HP StoreOnce serial number (found on the label on the top of the StoreOnce system head). Obtain a License To Use (LTU) from the HP Licensing website, see "Adding the License" (page 11). If you are installing several upgrade kits with an HP 4700 Backup system, be sure to obtain all LTUs before step 6. 6. Using the HP StoreOnce CLI, as described in "Applying the License and Completing the RAID Expansion" (page 11): • Add and load the licenses • Prepare for expansion • Add storage to the HP StoreOnce Backup system IMPORTANT: When connecting multiple upgrade kits to an HP StoreOnce 4700 Backup system, you must add all licenses before expanding the capacity of the HP StoreOnce Backup system. The storage expansion process will fail if there are any attached expansion enclosures for which a license has not been applied. 4 Capacity Upgrade

1 Capacity Upgrade
Introduction
The HP StoreOnce 4500/4700 Capacity Upgrade Kit increases the storage capacity of your HP
StoreOnce Backup system. It contains an enclosure with 12 x 2 TB disks and three cables, and is
for use with HP StoreOnce 4500 and 4700 Backup systems. A 1-meter cable is supplied to connect
the expansion shelf to the head unit and two half-meter cables are supplied for daisy chaining
shelves on HP StoreOnce 4700 Backup systems that already have upgrade kits installed.
NOTE:
Only one Upgrade Kit may be installed with the HP 4500 Backup system. For the HP
StoreOnce 4700 Backup system, one expansion shelf must be installed at the same time as the
head unit. Up to seven further expansion shelves may be installed at the same time or added later.
Planning for the Capacity Upgrade
IMPORTANT:
The addition of storage is an online operation; this means that additional storage
may be added while backups/restores are in progress. However, the new capacity will not be
available until the expansion process completes and there may be a performance impact on
backup/restore operations during the process.
With the HP StoreOnce 4500 Backup system expansion can take up to two hours. For the HP
StoreOnce 4700 Backup system it can take up to two hours per expansion enclosure, but it is
usually a lot quicker than this.
Make sure that host users are aware of the expansion process and check to see how any scheduled
jobs, such as replication and tape backup, may be affected by decreased performance.
Overview of the Upgrade process
1.
Install the rails for the Upgrade Kit, which should be located directly below or above the HP
StoreOnce Backup system; see
“Installing the Rails” (page 6)
.
2.
Install the Upgrade Kit; see
“Installing the Upgrade Kit” (page 7)
.
3.
Connect the Upgrade Kit to the HP StoreOnce Backup system; see
“Connecting the Capacity
Upgrade Kit” (page 7)
.
4.
Power on the Upgrade Kit.
5.
Make sure you have both the HP entitlement order number (supplied with the Upgrade Kit)
and the HP StoreOnce serial number (found on the label on the top of the StoreOnce system
head). Obtain a License To Use (LTU) from the HP Licensing website, see
“Adding the
License” (page 11)
. If you are installing several upgrade kits with an HP 4700 Backup system,
be sure to obtain all LTUs before step

.
6.
Using the HP StoreOnce CLI, as described in
“Applying the License and Completing the RAID
Expansion” (page 11)
:
Add and load the licenses
Prepare for expansion
Add storage to the HP StoreOnce Backup system
IMPORTANT:
When connecting multiple upgrade kits to an HP StoreOnce 4700 Backup system,
you must add all licenses before expanding the capacity of the HP StoreOnce Backup system. The
storage expansion process will fail if there are any attached expansion enclosures for which a
license has not been applied.
