BPV 1 = Bit pointer field is valid. 0 = Bit pointer field is invalid. Bit Pointer Specifies which bit is in error. When a multiple bit field is in error, the pointer points to the most significant bit in the field. Field Pointer Specifies which byte is in error. Bytes are numbered starting from 0. When a multiple-byte field is in error, the pointer points to the most significant byte of the field. Bytes identified as being in error are not necessarily the bytes that need to be changed to correct the problem. Chapter 3 3-11
