toptools User Guide HP Toptools for Desktops HP Toptools for Desktops provides extensive management control of your HP personal computers. Through installation of the standard DMI or WMI based agents, system administrators have access to asset, configuration, fault, and security management of personal computers from the toptools console. This section will provide examples of how to use the toptools console to: • Locate PCs within a site • Update software/firmware on PCs (also available for netservers) • Perform preventative maintenance Locating Personal Computers In this example your company must return 275 leased PCs. You need a report that lists all personal computers with serial numbers and hardware locations. To generate a personal computer inventory report, follow these steps: 1. In the toptools navigation panel, click the Inventory button and select PC Asset Location. 2. Toptools generates the PC Asset Location report. To print this report from the browser, right-click on the report and select print from the popup menu. For best results, print the selected frame in landscape layout. 68
