4.2. RIS PXE Server Prerequisites RIS services require Active Directory. Users will also have to configure their servers as a root domain controller, DHCP and Domain Name Server. (They will not need any forwarding/trusting to other domains for RIS to work. No configuration of the routing services is required either.) Allow the server configuration wizard to guide you through this process (go to Start>Programs>Administrative Tools>Configure your server). Check the "Active Directory" and "Networking" menus. The RIS installation will request a drive letter on which Windows 2000 or later OS are not present. Users are advised to have a second hard disk drive on the Windows 2000 server or have at least 2 or 3 partitions (4 GB minimum per partition). Detailed information on the Active Directory's configuration procedure is not within the scope of this document. RIS also requires a Windows 2000 CD-ROM or image on the hard disk drive. 27
