Error Codes Using the BootBlock feature Support Features After the BIOS update is complete, the BIOS update utility returns an error code for the operating system to display. The error codes are: 00 No error - BIOS update was successful. 01 The BIOS update utility can only be executed in real mode. 02 Memory allocation error. 03 Read BIOS ROM file failure. 04 System BIOS or BIOS ROM is faulty. 05 Erase flash failure. 06 Program flash failure. BIOS Update Crisis Recovery Procedure If you attempt to update (flash) the BIOS in the PC and the update fails, perhaps due to a bad ROM image or a power failure during the update process, the PC will be left with a corrupted BIOS. To recover from this situation, you need to use the BootBlock procedure. To recover from a faulty BIOS you need to use a floppy disk containing the BIOS file HS0x0x.ROM, but renamed to AMIBOOT.ROM (you need to rename the file yourself). To activate the BootBlock crisis recovery procedure: 1 Disconnect the computer's power supply cord and any connection to a telecommunications network. 2 Remove the computer's cover. 3 Set system board switches 5 (Clear CMOS) and 6 (Clear Passwords) to the On position. 4 Replace the cover and power cord. 5 Insert the floppy disk into the floppy disk drive. 6 While pressing CTRL + HOME , switch on the PC. BootBlock loads the ROM file AMIBOOT.ROM from the floppy disk and flashes the BIOS. This takes several minutes. When the flashing is complete, the PC reboots automatically. 7 Shut down the PC and disconnect the PC's power cord. 8 Remove the cover and set switches 5 and 6 back to the Off position. 9 Replace the cover, reconnect all power cords and cables, remove the floppy disk from the floppy disk drive, and switch on the PC. The PC should boot normally. 23

takes several minutes. When the flashing is complete, the PC reboots
automatically.
7
Shut down the PC and disconnect the PC’s power cord.
8
Remove the cover and set switches 5 and 6 back to the Off position.
9
Replace the cover, reconnect all power cords and cables, remove the
floppy disk from the floppy disk drive, and switch on the PC.
