System Overview Information You Need to Record Information You Need to Record Before you begin using your computer, take a moment to gather the following important information and record it in the appropriate subsection for future use: • LAN Station ID • Internet Protocol (IP) address • Subnetwork mask LAN Station ID Locate the contents label that came with your computer shipping carton. Find the LAN Station ID listed there and record it here: LAN Station ID The LAN Station ID can also be found on the back of the computer near the LAN connector. If the previous methods for locating your LAN Station ID do not work, you can get your LAN Station ID by executing the lanscan command in a terminal window. IP Address and Subnetwork Mask Information Get the IP address and the subnet mask information for your computer from either your system administrator or your network administrator and note them here: IP Address Subnet Mask Chapter 1 41
