Windows® XP Service Pack 2 HP Workstations Before installing the Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2, you must install the HP Quick Fix Engineering (QFE) update if you want the ability to revert back to your previous configuration. HP recommends you install the QFE before upgrading to SP2 because some software and hardware might not be tested with SP2 and therefore not work. If you do not install the QFE, you will not be able to restore your configuration. The QFE statement is valid for the HP Workstation xw3100, HP Workstation xw4000, HP Workstation xw4100, HP Workstation xw4200, HP Workstation xw5000, HP Workstation xw6000, HP Workstation xw6200, HP Workstation xw8000, and HP Workstation xw8200. This document describes how to install these two updates on your workstation. Installing QFE To download and install the QFE: 1. Go to www.hp.com/go/workstationsupport. 2. Select your workstation from the list. 3. In the I would like to section, click download drivers and software. 4. In the select operating system section, click Microsoft Windows XP Professional. 5. In the quick jump to downloads by category... section, click Operating System Enhancements and QFEs. 6. Locate Microsoft Windows XP OS UPgrade Fix (Q835409) Prerequisite to SP2 and click the download button next to it. Then, save the file, SP28386.exe, to a directory on your hard drive. 7. Double-click SP28386.exe to begin the installation process and follow the on-screen instructions. Installing SP2 Ä CAUTION: If you want the ability to revert back to your previous configuration after installing SP2, you must install the QFE. 1. Click Start > Help and Support. 2. In the Pick a task section, click Keep your computer up-to-date with Windows Update. 3. Click Express Install (Recommended): High Priority Updates for your Computer. 4.
