Troubleshooting Without Diagnostics Solving Network Problems (Continued) Problem Cause Diagnostics passes, but the computer does not communicate with the network. (continued) The network controller is not configured for this computer. Network controller stopped working when an expansion board was added to the computer. Network controller interrupt is shared with an expansion board. The network controller requires drivers. Network controller stops working without apparent cause. The expansion board installed is a network card (NIC) and conflicts with the embedded NIC. The files containing the network drivers are corrupted. The cable is not securely connected. The network controller is defective. New network card will not boot. Cannot connect to network server when attempting Remote System Installation. New network card may be defective or may not meet industry-standard specifications. The network controller is not configured properly. System setup utility reports unprogrammed EEPROM. Unprogrammed EEPROM. Solution Select the Network icon in the Control Panel and configure the network controller. Under the Computer Setup Advanced menu, change the resource settings for the board. Verify that the drivers were not accidentally deleted when the drivers for a new expansion board were installed. Under the Computer Setup Advanced menu, change the resource settings for the board. Reinstall the network drivers, using the Restore Plus! CD. Ensure that both ends of the cable are securely attached to the correct devices. Replace the NIC or replace the system board if the NIC is embedded. Install a working, industry-standard NIC, or change the boot sequence to boot from another source. Verify Network Connectivity, that a DHCP Server is present, and that the Remote System Installation Server contains the NIC drivers for your NIC. Flash the ROM. Service Reference Guide 483941-001 D-15
