36 EN RECORDING Simultaneous Recording This function allows you to record programs on both DVD deck and VCR deck simultaneously from the same input source (F1 or L1). It is useful when you require both DVD and tape version of a program you are recording once recording is complete. ● Turn on the unit. ● Turn on the TV and select the AV mode. ● Slide the TV/CABLE/DBS/DVD switch to DVD. ATTENTION: It is not possible to record programs on a DVD-R disc which has already been finalized. A Load a recordable disc. ● For details, refer to "Placing A Disc" (੬ pg. 10). B Press VCR/DVD repeatedly so that the DVD lamp lights up on the unit. C Press INPUT SELECT +/- on the unit or INPUT +/- on the remote control to select the recording source (F1 or L1). D Set the DVD deck to the stop mode. E Press REC MODE repeatedly to set the recording mode. ● When you press REC MODE once, the current recording mode is displayed. Thereafter, each time you press REC MODE, the recording mode changes as follows: XP ] SP ] LP ] EP ] FR ] (Back to the beginning) * The value is selectable from 1 to 6 hours in 5-minute intervals, from 7 to 8 hours in 1-hour intervals by pressing w e repeatedly after selecting "FR60-FR360", "FR420" and "FR480". To change the value in 30- minute intervals, press and hold w e. ● For details on the recording mode, see page 37. 2 Prepare the VCR deck for recording. A Load a cassette with the record safety tab intact. If not, set "REC SAFETY" to "OFF" (੬ pg. 61). ● The counter is reset to 0:00:00. B Press VCR/DVD repeatedly so that the VCR lamp lights up on the unit. C Press INPUT SELECT +/- on the unit or INPUT +/- on the remote control to select the recording source (F1 or L1). ● The recording source selected MUST be the same as that selected for the DVD deck. D Rewind the tape fully to the beginning and set the VCR deck to the stop mode. E Press REC MODE repeatedly to set the recording mode. ● When you press REC MODE once, the current recording mode is displayed. Thereafter, each time you press REC MODE, the recording mode alternates between SP and EP. NOTE: The order for the DVD and VCR deck preparation is not fixed. You may choose to start preparation for the VCR deck first. In whichever case, the recording source selection in step C must be the same. 3 Press 7 and 9 simultaneously to set to record pause mode. ● Both the DVD and VCR deck will enter the Record Pause mode at the same time. ● If the recording source selected in step C differs on the DVD and VCR deck, only the current selected deck will enter the Record Pause mode. ● If you do not start recording within 5 minutes, the VCR deck will enter stop mode automatically while the DVD deck remains in the Record Pause mode. 4 After about 10 seconds, press 4 to start recording. ● Both the DVD and VCR deck start recording at the same time. Both the DVD and VCR recording lamps light on the unit. ● If the recording source selected in step C differs on the DVD and VCR deck, only the current selected deck will start recording. ● If you start recording immediately after setting the decks to Record Pause mode in step 3, the current selected deck will start recording while the other deck remains in the Record Pause mode. Be sure to wait for about 10 seconds. 5 To pause recording, press 9. ● Both the DVD and VCR deck will enter the Record Pause mode at the same time. ● To resume recording, press 4. 6 To stop recording, press 8. ● Both the DVD and VCR deck will stop recording at the same time. NOTES: ● If Mode Lock is engaged when both the DVD and VCR deck are in stop mode, Simultaneous Recording will not work. ● If Mode Lock is engaged during Simultaneous Recording, it is not possible to pause or stop the recording. ● It is recommended to format a DVD-RAM disc before use if you use the disc on this unit for the first time. ● When using a brand-new DVD-RW disc, format the disc either in VR mode or in Video mode. (੬ pg. 62) ● Recordings made on DVD-R/RW disc must be finalized to play back on other DVD players. Perform "Finalize A Disc (DVD Deck Only)" (੬ pg. 63) ● You can record up to 99 programs and 99 play lists on each disc. ● When recording is started, an index of the first part of recording is automatically recorded. (੬ pg. 39) To delete the index, refer to page 41. ● Recording on the DVD deck sometimes may stop or cannot be performed even if there is enough available capacity remaining on the disc. Accidental erasure prevention To prevent accidental recording on a recorded cassette, remove its safety tab and set "REC SAFETY" to "ON" (੬ pg. 61). To record on it later, cover the hole with adhesive tape or set "REC SAFETY" to "OFF". Record safety tab

RECORDING
This function allows you to record programs on both DVD deck and
VCR deck simultaneously from the same input source (F1 or L1). It

Prepare the DVD deck for recording.

Load a recordable disc.
For details, refer to “Placing A Disc” (

Both the DVD and VCR deck start recording at the same time. Both
the DVD and VCR recording lamps light on the unit.

NOTES:
If Mode Lock is engaged when both the DVD and VCR deck are in
stop mode, Simultaneous Recording will not work.
If Mode Lock is engaged during Simultaneous Recording, it is not
possible to pause or stop the recording.
It is recommended to format a DVD-RAM disc before use if you use
the disc on this unit for the first time.
When using a brand-new DVD-RW disc, format the disc either in VR
mode or in Video mode. (

Recordings made on DVD-R/RW disc must be finalized to play back
on other DVD players. Perform “Finalize A Disc (DVD Deck Only)”

Turn on the unit.
Turn on the TV and select the AV mode.
