Input MPEG-4 Technology LG's new LC5 series flat-panel HDTV LCDs incorporate the nextgeneration digital video compression technology, MPEG-4 (Moving Picture Experts Group) H.264, that enhances performance and simplicity for venues delivering satellite high-definition programming. This technology is the standard for compatibility with the more than 150 national HD channels and 1,500 local broadcast HD and digital channels, which are scheduled to launch on DIRECTV in 2007. The advanced coding system enables delivery of many more HD channels in the same frequency bandwidth as before. Integrated MPEG-4 HDTVs support the industry's deployment of DIRECTV-delivered HD content, while setting the stage for the longer-term implementation of MPEG-4 by other satellite operators, cable companies, telcos and broadcasters. Since MPEG-4 technology is built-in to these sets, an external box is not required to be used with HD content providers who adapt to using this new technology. Pro:Idiom™ Digital Rights Management System The Pro:Idiom™ system's high-quality security unlocks access to premium content availability to help assure rapid, broad deployment of HDTV and other high-value digital content. Pro:Idiom™ has been designed specifically for industries that use satellite-delivered pay TV content or video-on-demand (VOD) services and as such, could result in lower costs, and reduced maintenance. This system is the only DRM system embraced by content providers for both of these key programming sources. By using this embedded approach, security is provided and removes the possibility for "customers" to tamper with or remove needed components. MPEG-4 TECHNOLOGY
LG’s new LC5 series flat-panel HDTV LCDs incorporate the next-
generation digital video compression technology, MPEG-4 (Moving
Picture Experts Group) H.264, that enhances performance and sim-
plicity for venues delivering satellite high-definition programming. This
technology is the standard for compatibility with the more than 150
national HD channels and 1,500 local broadcast HD and digital chan-
nels, which are scheduled to launch on DIRECTV in 2007.
The advanced coding system enables delivery of many more HD chan-
nels in the same frequency bandwidth as before. Integrated MPEG-4
HDTVs support the industry’s deployment of DIRECTV-delivered HD
content, while setting the stage for the longer-term implementation
of MPEG-4 by other satellite operators, cable companies, telcos and
broadcasters. Since MPEG-4 technology is built-in to these sets, an
external box is not required to be used with HD content providers
who adapt to using this new technology.
