Appendix A. Replacing components Replacing a memory module Attention: • Use only the memory types supported by your computer. If you incorrectly install optional memory, or install an unsupported memory type, a warning beep will sound when you try to start the computer. To replace a memory module, do the following: Attention: • Before replacing a memory module, touch a metal table or a grounded metal object to reduce any static electricity in your body. The static electricity could damage the memory module. 1 Turn off the computer. Disconnect the AC power adapter and all cables from the computer. Wait three to five minutes to let the computer cool. 2 Close the computer display and turn the computer over. 3 Remove the battery pack. 4 Remove the main compartment cover. 5 Locate the memory module that needs replacement. Press out on the latches on both edges of the socket at the same time, and then remove the memory module to make room for the new one. Save the removed memory module for future use. 2 1 1 32
