NAS Administrator Guide
Introduction
This documentation provides instructions on how to manage your Lenovo
®
network-attached storage (NAS)
product using the programs and utilities that come with the Microsoft
®
Windows
®
Storage Server 2012
R2 operating system.
Installingtheoperatingsystem
To install the Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 operating system on the network-attached storage
product (hereafter called the storage product), do the following:
1. Connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the storage product.
2. Turn on the storage product.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Note:
You will be prompted to set an administrator name and a password during the installation process.
The administrator name and the password are required to log in to the operating system.
Reinstallingtheoperatingsystem
To reinstall the Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 operating system on the storage product,
do the following:
1. Back up all the data on the storage product.
2. Connect an optical drive to a USB connector on the storage product. Then insert the operating system
installation disc into the optical drive.
3. Turn off the storage product. Then, start the storage product from the optical drive. The operating
system installation process starts.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Notes:
• You will be prompted to set an administrator name and a password during the installation process. The
administrator name and the password are required to log in to the operating system.
• The default configuration includes two RAID volumes. The RAID 1 volume uses the two hard disk drives in
the rear of the storage product for the operating system. The RAID 5 or RAID 6 volume uses the hard disk
drives in the front of the storage product for data.
UsingtheRemoteDesktopfunction
To manage the storage product, connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the storage product. You also
can manage the storage product remotely using the Remote Desktop function.
To use the Remote Desktop function, do the following:
1. Start the Server Manager program.
2. Click
LocalServer
. The Properties window is displayed.
3. Click
Disabled

RemoteDesktop
. The System Properties window is displayed.
4. Select
Allowremoteconnectionstothiscomputer
and click
OK
.
5. Click
SelectUsers
to select the computer that you want to connect to the storage product remotely.
