Notes: • The Remote Desktop function can be enabled during the operating system installation process. • It is recommended that you set a name for the storage product for identification. Managing the share This topic provides instructions on how to create a share and modify the share properties. Creating a share The Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 operating system supports the Server Message Block (SMB) share and the Network File System (NFS) share. SMB shares are for the clients that have Windows operating systems installed. NFS shares are for the clients that have Unix operating systems installed. Depending on the operating system that the client is using, create a share by doing one of the following: • Creating an SMB share 1. Start the Server Manager program. 2. Click File and Storage Services. 3. In the Shares pane, select New Share from the TASKS drop-down list box. 4. In the Select the Profile window, select your desired SMB share type, and then click Next. 5. In the Share Location window, select your storage product from the list and select a volume. Then, click Next. 6. In the Share Name window, type your desired share name and description. Then, click Next. Note: If the folder for the new share does not exist, the folder will be created on the local path automatically. 7. In the Other Settings window, configure the options as you need. Then, click Next. 8. In the Permissions window, click Customize permissions to configure the access permission as you need. 9. In the Confirmation window, confirm the settings and click Create. A window is displayed and prompts that the new share is created successfully. 10. Click Close. • Creating an NFS share 1. Start the Server Manager program. 2. Click File and Storage Services. 3. In the Shares pane, select New Share from the TASKS drop-down list box. 4. In the Select the Profile window, select your desired NFS share type, and then click Next. 5. In the Share Location window, select your storage product from the list and select a volume. Then, click Next. 6. In the Share Name window, type your desired share name and description. Then, click Next. Note: If the folder for the new share does not exist, the folder will be created on the local path automatically. 7. In the Authentication window, configure the authentication method as you need. Then, click Next. Note: If anonymous access is enabled, all Linux users have access to the share. 2
