Cutting-Edge Processor Options New Intel® Xeon® 5500 Series processors feature Intel's latest innovation in microprocessor architecture, which leverages the Intel® Nehalem architecture. This automatically allows processor cores to run faster than the base operating frequency. Intel® HT Technology and Intel® Turbo Boost Technology Intel® HT Technology and Intel® Turbo Boost Technology are combined in processors based on Intel® Microarchitecture, codenamed Nehalem. Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology uses thread-level parallelism on each processor resulting in higher processing throughput. • Increase productivity by running applications simultaneously • Increase scalability by dynamically managing workload Intel® xeon® processor 5500 series-based server Highlights of record-breaking results (March 30, 2009) Segment- Benchmark Result (gain over Intel® Xeon® processor 5400 series) Importance Virtualization- VMmark* 23.89 @ 17 tiles RD220 provides 3x higher performance over current generation servers. SPECint_rate2006 RD220 can process critical applications 2x faster than current generation servers 250 for end-user applications such as database servers, e-mail servers and web servers. SPECfp_rate2006 RD220 provides a 3x improvement over 196 current generation servers in processing applications such as scientific modeling, CAD and digital content creation. *Assumptions: $0.12 per KWH, 1 Watt produces 3.412 BTU per hour, 675W (RD220), 835W (RD120). Intel® Intelligent Power Technology Within a single server, Intel® Intelligent Power Technology minimizes power consumption when server components are not fully utilized. Integrated Power Gates allow individual idling cores to be reduced to near-zero power, independent of other operating cores. • Reduces server idle power consumption by up to 50% versus the previous generation of 2 socket server processors. • Automated Low-Power States automatically put both processor and memory into the lowest available power states that meet system requirements. Intel® Xeon® 5500 series processor option kits for ThinkServer systems The next generation of ThinkServer systems are based on the new Intel® 5500 Series processors. ThinkServer dual-socket systems are designed to provide the performance and reliability to meet your small business needs. Having two processors in dual socket systems gives you the ability to easily scale to meet your needs. This is especially important when your server needs to handle a large number of users in a virtualized environment.
