• Automatically create a partition If you want to use the entire hard disk drive as one primary partition, check the partitioning information of the hard disk drive on which you want to install the operating system and then click Install. When the installation completes, a partition will be created automatically. • Manually create a root partition (/) To create a root partition, do the following: a. Click Partitioning. b. Select Create Custom Partition Setup and click Next. c. Select Custom Partitioning (for experts) and click Next. d. In the Expert Partitioner window, click Create. If you are prompted to do settings, follow the instructions on the screen. e. When a window opens prompting you to select a partition type, select Primary Partition and click OK. f. In the Formatting Options area, select Ext3 from the File system drop-down list box. g. In the Mount Options area, select / from the Mount Point drop-down list box. h. Type the amount of space (+20 GB) in the End: (9 or +9M or +3.2 GB) field and click OK. i. Click Finish. • Manually create a swap partition To create a swap partition, do the following: a. Click Partitioning. b. Select Create Custom Partition Setup and click Next. c. Select Custom Partitioning (for experts) and click Next. d. In the Expert Partitioner window, click Create. If you are prompted to do settings, follow the instructions on the screen. e. When a window opens prompting you to select a partition type, select Primary Partition and click OK. f. In the Formatting Options area, select Swap from the File system drop-down list box. The Mount Point setting in the Mount Options area will be automatically changed to Swap. g. Type the amount of space (+1 GB) in the End: (9 or +9M or +3.2 GB) field and click OK. h. Click Finish. 15. In the Installation Settings window, click Software to select software programs of your choice. Then, click OK. 16. When the YaST window opens, click Accept. 17. Click Install to install the software programs. When the YaST2 window opens, click Install to confirm the installation. The installation process begins. 18. When the installation process finishes, the server will restart automatically. In the Startup Options window, select SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP3 (XEN) and press Enter. 19. When the message "The graphical interface could not be started" is displayed, select OK and press Enter. 20. Set your root user password and then click Next. Note: The password should have at least six characters in length and be a combination of upper case letters, lower case letters, and numbers. 21. Continue with the initial configuration of the server by following the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. 12

To create a swap partition, do the following:

15. In the Installation Settings window, click
Software
to select software programs of your choice. Then,
click
OK
.
16. When the YaST window opens, click
Accept
.
17. Click
Install
to install the software programs. When the YaST2 window opens, click
Install
to confirm
the installation. The installation process begins.
18. When the installation process finishes, the server will restart automatically. In the Startup Options
window, select
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP3 (XEN)
and press Enter.
19. When the message “The graphical interface could not be started” is displayed, select
OK
and press
Enter.
20. Set your root user password and then click
Next
.
Note:
The password should have at least six characters in length and be a combination of upper
case letters, lower case letters, and numbers.
21. Continue with the initial configuration of the server by following the instructions on the screen to
complete the installation.
