2 Choose an autofocus mode. Press the B button and rotate the command dial until one of the following autofocus modes is displayed in the monitor (note that these autofocus modes differ from those available in s other shooting modes): Mode Description 8 Face priority The camera automatically detects and focuses on portrait subjects facing the camera. Use for portraits. Use for hand-held shots of landscapes 9 Wide area (default) and other non-portrait subjects. The focus point can be selected using the multi selector. ! Normal area Use for pin-point focus on a selected spot in the frame. A tripod is recommended. B button Main command dial Exit Monitor 3 Check the view in the monitor. To magnify the view in the monitor and check focus, press the X button. X button Exit Press X to zoom in up to a maximum of 6.7 ×, or press W to zoom out. While the view through the lens is zoomed in, a navigation window will appear in a gray frame at the bottom right corner of the display. Use the multi selector to scroll to areas of the frame not visible in the monitor. Press the J button to start recording (pg. 50). A Monitor Brightness Monitor brightness can be adjusted by pressing the K button while the view through the monitor is displayed. Press 1 or 3 to adjust brightness (note that monitor brightness has no effect on pictures taken in live view mode). To return to live view, release the K button. 44
