Basic Camera Setup: The Setup Menu k Auto Off If no operations are performed for the selected length of time, the monitor will turn off and the camera will enter standby mode (A 21) to reduce the drain on the battery. The power-on lamp will blink in standby mode. If no operations are performed for about another three minutes, the camera will turn off automatically. Choose the time allowed to elapse before the camera enters standby mode. The time options are [30s], [1m] (default setting), [5m], or [30m]. C Notes on Auto Off Regardless of the option selected, the monitor will remain on for three minutes when menus are displayed, or for 30 minutes during continuous playback for slide shows or when an AC adapter (available separately from Nikon) is connected. Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus l Format Memory/m Format Card Use this option to format the internal memory or a memory card. Formatting the Internal Memory To format the internal memory, remove the memory card from the camera. The [Format memory] option appears in the setup menu. Format memory WARNING! All images will be deleted! No Format Formatting a Memory Card When the memory card is inserted in the camera, the [Format card] option appears in the setup menu. Format card WARNING! All images will be deleted! No Format B Formatting Internal Memory and Memory Cards • Formatting the internal memory or memory cards permanently deletes all data. Be sure to transfer important pictures to a computer before formatting. • Do not turn the camera off, disconnect the AC adapter, or open the battery-chamber/memory card cover during formatting. • The first time you insert the memory cards used in other devices into the COOLPIX S700, be sure to format them using this camera. 111
