Troubleshooting If the camera fails to function as expected, check the list of common problems below before consulting your retailer or Nikon-authorized service representative. Display, Settings and Power Supply Problem Monitor is blank Monitor is hard to read/has darkened Camera turns off without warning Date and time of recording are not correct No indicators displayed in monitor Cause/Solution • Camera is off. • Battery is exhausted. • Standby mode for saving power: press the shutter-release button halfway. • When connecting to an electrical outlet using a Charging AC Adapter, the camera cannot be turned on. • Camera and computer are connected via the USB cable. • Adjust monitor brightness. • When the internal temperature of the camera is high, the monitor darkens to reduce heat generation. When internal temperature cools, the monitor brightens again. • When the power-on lamp is covered after the camera has automatically increased monitor brightness, the monitor may darken. • Monitor is dirty. Clean monitor. • Battery is exhausted. • If connecting the Charging AC Adapter while the camera is on, the camera is turned off. • The USB cable for the camera to a computer or printer has been disconnected. Reconnect the USB cable. • The internal temperature of the camera or the memory card is high. Allow the camera and memory card to cool and turn on the camera again. • Battery is cold. • Pictures recorded before clock has been set will have time stamp of "00/00/0000 00:00". "Date not set" indicator blinks during shooting; movies will be dated "01/01/2009 00:00." Set the correct time and date from the Date option in the setup menu. • Check camera clock regularly against more accurate timepieces and reset as required.
