FLASH SYNCHRONIZATION The Pentax ES has FP and X terminals at the front of the camera body, and an additional X contact on the built-in hot shoe atop the pentaprism housing. As indicated in the I table, set the shutter dial at 1/60 X for electronic flash, with the flash cord plugged into the X terminal. Set the shutter dial at 1/125 or faster for FP class flash bulb, with the cord plugged into the FP terminal. X r. In this case, you do not have to plug the flash cord into the X terminal on the body front. The hot shoe flash contact turns to "hot" (switched on) only when you insert a shoe-mount electronic flash. It remains "cold" (disconnected) and you never get a shock even when using an electronic flash with its cord plugged into the X terminal on the body front. 3 ES EN TAX 1 4.0" When not using these terminals, keep the plugs inserted in the terminals.
