Your compact, light weight camera is a great companion to preserve your favorite memories. • Please read this manual carefully before operating the camera to lake consistently superior pictures. • Pay special attention to the cautions and notes in this Operating Manual. PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE USE OF YOUR CAMERA Although we have carefully designed this camera for safe operation, please be sure to follow precautions given in this manual. 6 WARNING This mark indicates precautions that if not followed, could result in serious injury to the person. & CAUTION This mark indicates precautions that, if not followed, could result in minor or medium injury to the person or damage to the equipment. .Z6, WARNING • The electric circuits inside the camera contain high voltage working parts. Never attempt to disassemble the camera yourself. • Never touch internal parts of the camera if they become exposed from dropping the camera or for some other reason, as there is danger of electric shock. • Wrapping the strap around your neck is dangerous. Make sure that small children do not the strap caught their neck. & CAUTION • Never try to disassemble, short or recharge the battery. Also, do not dispose of the battery in fire, as it may explode. • Remove the battery from the camera immediately if it become hot or begin to smoke. Be careful not to burn yourself during removal. PRECAUTIONS FOR YOUR CAMERA Precautions when taking pictures • Do not use the camera where it may come in contact with rain, water or any other liquid, because the camera is not weather, water, or liquid resistant. Should the camera get wet from rain, splashing water, or any other liquid, wipe it off immediately with a dry soft cloth. • Be careful not to subject the camera to strong vibrations, shock or pressure. Use a cushion to protect the camera when carrying it in a motorcycle, car, boat, etc. • Condensation on the interior or the exterior of the camera may be extremely harmful to the camera mechanism as it may cause rust and / or corrosion. Furthermore, if the camera is taken from warm temperature to a subfreezing one or vice versa, the formation of icefets may cause damage. In such a case, put the camera into a case or plastic bag so that any changes in temperature difference is minimized. Do not remove it from the bag until temperature has stabilized. Precautions for storage • Avoid leaving the camera for extended periods in places where temperature and humidity are high such as in a car. • Do not store the camera in a closet with mothballs or in a case where chemicals are handled. Store it in a place with good air circulation to prevent fungus growth. Precautions for proper care • Use a blower and lens brush to remove dust accumulated on the lens or the viewfinder window. • Never use solvents such as paint thinner, alcohol or benzene to clean the camera. To clean the external camera surfaces, - but not glass surfaces; using a dry or silicone-treated cloth is recommended. Other precautions • The temperature range at which this camera functions properly is 50°C to -10°C (122°F to 14°F). • To maintain optimum performance, it is recommended that the camera be inspected every one or two years. If the camera has not been used for an extended period, or is being prepared for an important photographic session, it is recommended that you have the camera inspected or test shoot with it. PRECAUTIONS FOR BATTERY USAGE • Misuse of a battery can cause hazards such as leakage, overheating. explosions, etc. The battery should be inserted with the "+" and'-" sides facing correctly. • Battery performance may be temporarily hindered in low temperatures, but will recover in normal temperatures. • Keep a spare battery on hand for replacement convenience when shooting outdoors or while traveling. • Be sure to store battery out of reach of children. Seek medical assistance immediately if accidentally swallowed. 2. STRAP ATTACHMENT Fit the strap on the camera as illustrated. Protrusion part can be used for opening Battery cover, for adjusting Date and for pushing Mid-roll rewind button. E English 4. OUTLINE OF BASIC OPERATION 1 Insert the battery with plus (+) side up. Use one 3V Lithium Battery (CR123A or the equivalent) 2 Set the date and time. (Refer to the following section 5. DATE MODEL.) 3 Open the back cover. 4 Load the film. Pull out the film leader end to reach the 0[FILMVI. Ensure the film is taut and flat. If there is dirt on the film detector 0, the film cannot be wound properly. 5 Close the back cover. Film is advanced to the 1st. frame automatically. If "E" appears on LCD panel, load the film properly again. 6 Turn the main switch ON. 7 Compose by using the zoom lever and focus on the subject with autofocus frame. 8 Release the shutter completely to take picture when green lamp lights on. 9 At the end of the film, camera rewinds the film automatically. 10After confirming "0" indication in the LCD panel, remove the film. 5. DATE MODEL When the battery cover is opened, date and time initialize to '98 1 1 and 00:00. Use the protrusion parts of the strap clamp to depress the button. Selecting the Mode Press the DATE button 0 to change the date mode as shown in the list Year Month Day Day Hour Minute (Blank) N4o,imprinting Month Day Year Day Month Year Correcting the Date 1 Depress the SELECT button 0 to select desired category of digits. 2 Depress the ADJUST button 0 to change digits. 3 Depress the SELECT button 0 until the blinking digits stop. Correcting the Time [Day Hour Minute] 1 Correction of the lime can also be done in the same procedure as the one for the date. 6. VIEWFINDER DISPLAYS AND GREEN LAMP INDICATIONS 6-1. Viewfinder displays 0 Autofocus frame Focus on the subject with this frame. O Picture area When taking a normal picture, compose the scene with this frame. 0 Close distance (0.8 to 1.0m) compensation frame. When the camera-to-subject distance is between 0.8m and 1.0m, compose the scene within this frame. 6-2. Green lamp indication 0 Lighting: Flash is charged. Shutter release possible. 0 Blinking: Flash is being charged. 7. FLASH EFFECTIVE RANGE (Color negative film used.) • With high speed film, overexposure may occur at close distance due to the film's high sensitivity. 8. REWINDNG THE FILM IN MIDROLL Depress the mid-roll rewind button with the protrusion part of the strap clamp. 9. TAKING PICTURES WITH VARIOUS MODES 9-1. EXPOSURE MODE Push (1 ) to change exposure mode. 1. AUTO MODE (NORMAL MODE) Turn the main switch ON to set this mode. Flash discharges if it is in low light. 2. AUTO MODE / RED-EYE REDUCTION FLASH Normal mode with red-eye reduction flash. 3. AUTO MODE / DAYLIGHT-FLASH ON Flash discharges always. 4. SLOW SHUTTER SPEED 4-1. Slow shutter speed with Flash-OFF No flash discharge. Use of tripod is recommended. 4-2. Slow shutter speed with Flash ON and Red-eye-reduction flash Use of tripod is recommended. The proper exposure for the foreground subject and a slow-shutter speed for background. 9-2. SHOOTING MODE Push (Or ) to change Shooting Mode. 1. NORMAL SHOOTING MODE Single frame. 2.
