Utility stitches and practical sewing Repairing tears On tears, frayed edges or small holes it is useful to lay a piece of fabric under the reverse side of the fabric. The underlaid fabric reinforces the workpiece and ensures you a perfect repair. • Lay a piece of fabric underneath the material. It must always be a little larger than the damaged area. • Sew over the damaged area in accordance with the size of the tear. • Trim the underlaid piece of fabric back to the seam. 43

Repairing tears
On tears, frayed edges or small holes it
is useful to lay a piece of fabric under the
reverse side of the fabric. The underlaid
fabric reinforces the workpiece and en-
sures you a perfect repair.
• Lay a piece of fabric underneath the
material. It must always be a little larger
than the damaged area.
• Sew over the damaged area in accord-
ance with the size of the tear.
• Trim the underlaid piece of fabric back
to the seam.
