You do not need to connect all 4 speakers to enable your sound output. You can have only the front speakers connected. This will however reduce the feel of the positional 3D sound sensations. Why isn't there any sound from the speakers? Go through the following steps: 1. Make sure your speakers are connected to your computer is as described in Hardware Installation - External Connections. 2. Your speakers should be active speakers (speakers with external power supply). Passive speakers may result in unacceptably low volume and distortion. 3. The Output Mode (Philips Seismic Edge Control Panel Applet Settings tab) must be set to Speaker if you are using only the 2 front speakers. It must be set to Quad if you are using 4 speakers.
