Basic Playback Playing Sources with Dolby Digital or DTS Sound The following instructions show you how to play Dolby Digital or DTS sound sources with the VSX-35TX. Be sure that the standby indicator turns off on the front panel. 3 Press the MULTI CONTROL buttons or the FUNCTION button (or turn the MULTI JOG dial) to select the source you want to playback. The FUNCTION button cycles through the sources in the following order: 7 DVD/LD TV/SAT CD CD-R/TAPE 1 VCR 2 VCR 1/DVR VIDEO PHONO TUNER 3 4 Choose a sound mode by pressing THX, 5 ADVANCED or STANDARD. The default setting is STEREO. 4 (For more see "Sound Modes" and "Selecting a Sound Mode" on p. 41-44.) 5 Press the SIGNAL SELECT button to select the input signal. Set to AUTO. (See "Switching ANALOG/DIGITAL Signal Input" on p. 47.) 6 Play a source (for example, a DVD player). 7 Adjust the volume by using the volume buttons on the remote control or the 3 MASTER VOLUME on the front panel. memo • We recommend using different modes for different types of DTS material. For watching movies, the THX or ADVANCED THEATER setting should provide the best results. For listening to music, the STANDARD, DIRECT, STEREO, or DSP modes should serve the listener best. 7 • Make sure you connect your DVD/LD or LD player with the RF demodulator. If your player has an 2 RF output this will ensure you can use all LDs. Refer to p.15. • If you are not able to get sound from the receiver the problem may well lie with the SIGNAL SELECT button. You need to make sure the input is set to the appropriate ANALOG or DIGITAL setting. Refer to p. 47 for more on this. • Some DVD players don't output DTS signals. Put the remote control slide switch in USE.

Press the RECEIVER
button to turn on the
receiver.
Be sure that the standby indicator turns off on the front panel.

Press the MULTI CONTROL buttons or the
FUNCTION button (or turn the MULTI JOG
dial) to select the source you want to
playback.
The FUNCTION button cycles through the sources in the
following order:
TUNER
CD-R/TAPE 1
VCR 2
VCR 1/DVR
TV/SAT
DVD/LD
VIDEO
CD
PHONO

Choose a sound mode by pressing THX,
ADVANCED or STANDARD.
The default setting is STEREO.

Press the SIGNAL SELECT button to select
the input signal. Set to AUTO.
(See “Switching ANALOG/DIGITAL Signal Input” on p. 47.)

Play a source (for example, a DVD player).

Adjust the volume by using the volume
buttons on the remote control or the
MASTER VOLUME on the front panel.

We recommend using different modes for different types of
DTS material. For watching movies, the THX or ADVANCED
THEATER setting should provide the best results. For listening
to music, the STANDARD, DIRECT, STEREO, or DSP modes
should serve the listener best.

Make sure you connect your DVD/LD or LD player with the RF
demodulator. If your player has an

RF output this will
ensure you can use all LDs. Refer to p.15.
