MAINTENANCE a WARNING: Unplug the power tool from the power edges and sides. source before performing maintenance. Severe injury or death could occur from electrical shock A B or body contact with moving parts. a WARNING: The cutting edges on the chain are sharp. Use protective gloves when handling the chain. GUIDE BAR MAINTENANCE &RQGLWLRQVZKLFKUHTXLUHJXLGHEDUPDLQWHQDQFH • The chain saw cuts to one side or at an angle. • The chain saw has to be forced through the cut. • There is an inadequate supply of oil to the guide bar and chain. Cleaning the guide bar rails The rails that hold the chain in place should be cleaned if the guide bar or chain appear to be dirty. The rails should also be cleaned every time the chain is removed. 1. Remove the sprocket cover, guide bar and chain. 2. Use a wire brush, screwdriver or similar tool to clear the residue from the inner groove of the guide bar. 3. Clean the oil passages thoroughly. Filing the guide bar rails :KHQUDLOWRSLVXQHYHQXVHDÀDW¿OHWRUHVWRUHVTXDUH A = Worn Groove B = Correct Groove Replace the guide bar when the groove is worn, the guide bar is bent or cracked, or when excess heating or burring of the rails occurs. Only use a replacement guide bar that matches the original guide bar. Turning the guide bar The guide bar is subjected to especially severe wear and tear at the nose and the bottom. To avoid one-sided wear and tear, turn the guide bar over every time when you sharpen the chain. CHAIN MAINTENANCE &RQGLWLRQVZKLFKUHTXLUHFKDLQPDLQWHQDQFH • The chain saw cuts to one side or at an angle. • The chain saw has to be forced through the cut. Keep the chain sharp. A properly sharpened chain will cut faster and more safely. A dull chain will cause sprocket, guide bar, and motor wear. If you must force the chain into the wood and cutting creates only sawdust with few large chips, the chain is dull.
