B. CONNECTING TO A DISPLAY (Using a HDMI cable) For TVs that support it, HDMI can provide the best quality audio and video output (depending on media source), and so is the preferred connection type. The HDMI cable incorporates both audio and video signals, so you will have just one cable running from the unit to your TV. Using a HDMI cable (not included), connect the HDMI OUT jack on your unit to the HDMI IN jack on your TV or HDMI-compatible display. • When using a HDMI cable, do not connect to other analog video outputs. • Set an output signal from the HDMI terminal of the DVD player in accordance with your TV's input signal. • When using HDMI cable, set the HDMI Audio to PCM. • Press the HDMI button on the remote control in stop mode to change output signals as below: 480p (progressive) 720p (progressive) 1080i (interlace) 1080p (progressive) Notes: • Refer to your owner's manual to the connected TV as well. • When you connect the DVD player to your TV, be sure to turn off the power and unplug both units from the wall outlet before making any connections. • If you have a HDMI (with HDCP) equipped monitor or display, you can connect it to this player using a HDMI cable. HDMI, the HDMI logo and High-Definition Multimedia Interface are trademarks or registered trademarks of HDMI licensing LLC. CONNECTING TO OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT (AMPLIFIER) A. ANALOG CONNECTION Using an audio/video cable, connect the left/right AUDIO OUT jack on your unit to the AUDIO IN jack on your other source. ANALOG CONNECTION Amplifier of stereo system, etc. B. DIGITAL CONNECTIONS (preferred) This unit has two digital audio outputs - a COAXIAL digital audio output, and an OPTICAL digital audio output. Either will provide multichannel ("surround sound") audio if the DVD being played contains multi-channel content. Simply connect a coaxial (not included) or optical (not included) cable from the coaxial or optical output of your unit to the coaxial or optical input of your Audio or Home Theater system. PLAYING A DISC This user manual explains the basic instructions for operating this unit. Some DVDs are produced in a manner that allows specific or limited operation during playback. Therefore, this unit may not respond to all operating commands. THIS IS NOT A DEFECT. Audio Selection On some DVDs, the sound is recorded in two or more formats. Follow the directions below to select the preferred language and sound system. 1. While a disc is playing, press the AUDIO button to show the current audio format number. e.g. • Some DVDs allow you to change subtitles only via the disc menu. If this is the case, press the MENU button and choose the appropriate subtitle on the disc menu. Angle Selection Some DVDs contain scenes which have been shot from a number of different angles. For these discs, the same scene can be viewed from each of these different angles. 1. While you are playing a DVD with different angles recorded, press the ANGLE button to view the number of current angles available. 2. Press the ANGLE button repeatedly to change the scene to the next recorded angle. e.g. :[ 2/3] Sequence of angle shots (Example) 2. Press the AUDIO button repeatedly to select the desired audio format. Notes: • If only one audio format is recorded on the DVD, the number does not change. • Some DVDs allow you to change audio selections only via the disc menu. If this is the case, press the MENU button and choose the appropriate language on the disc menu. • You can select different audio channels (STEREO, MONO L, MONO R or MIX MONO) on an Audio CD by pressing the AUDIO button repeatedly. Subtitle Selection 1. While a DVD is playing, press the SUBTITLE button to display the current language setting, as shown in the example. [1 ENGLISH ] 2. Press the SUBTITLE button repeatedly to select the desired subtitle language. You can turn subtitles off by pressing the SUBTITLE button repeatedly until the [ OFF ] is displayed. Notes: • Some DVDs are set to display subtitles automatically, and you cannot turn them off even if you set the subtitle function to off. • During some scenes, the subtitles may not appear immediately after you select your desired scene. • The number of subtitle languages recorded differs depending on the disc. If only one language is recorded, the language does not change. • This function can only be used for discs on which subtitles have been recorded in multiple languages. • After approx. two seconds, playback will continue from the new angle you selected. • If no button is pressed within 10 seconds, playback continues without changing the current angle. Notes: • This function can only be used for discs on which scenes shot from multiple angles have been recorded. • If only one angle is recorded, is displayed. Display Function While the disc is playing, press the DISPLAY button on the remote control repeatedly to display information on operation status. Elapsed Time: Elapsed time from the beginning of the chapter/title which is currently playing. Remaining Time: Remaining time of the chapter/title which is currently playing. Chapter Elapsed Time Chapter Remaining Time -C 00:12:03 Title Elapsed Time T 00:30:15 Title Remaining Time -T 02:01:22 LOCATING A DESIRED SECTION Locating a Specific Chapter / Track / Title / Time If you know the chapter / track / title / time number you want to play, you can locate a specific chapter / track / title / time by directly selecting a chapter / track / title / time number. 1. Press the GOTO button to search your desired chapter / track / title / time. 2. Press , , or button to highlight a chapter / track / title / time and press the corresponding number button(s) for the chapter / track / title / time you want. Track Chapter Title Time 3. Press the OK button to confirm. The unit will start playback about 3 seconds later. Notes : • Some discs may not respond to this process. • Some scenes may not be located as precisely as you specified. • This method for accessing specific locations is available only within the current title of the DVD disc. - 6 - PLAYING PICTURE FILE DISC This unit can display picture files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. Playing a Picture File Disc 1. Open the disc door. 2. Place a picture file disc onto the tray with label side up. 3. Close the disc door. 4. The unit will load the disc and automatically display the contents of the disc on the screen, while playing the beginning of the first picture file. These files will then be played back one by one. If the unit does not automatically start playing, press the PLAY button. 5. Press STOP or RETURN button to enter the contents of the disc. Then press the , , or CURSOR button to select a picture that you want to view, and press the OK Folder(s) Files within the current folder button to confirm. 6. Now the picture slideshow begins with the selected picture. Notes: • You can press the PAUSE button to interrupt playback, and press the PLAY button to resume playback. • You can use the GOTO function or use the numbered buttons to enter the number of a picture file to quickly select the image. • During playback, press the ZOOM button to enlarge the picture in 3 levels (2, 3 and 4 times) only while HDMI resolution is set to 480p. • During playback, press to rotate picture anti-clockwise by 90°, press to rotate picture clockwise by 90°; press to flip picture vertically, press to flip picture horizontally. REPEAT PLAYBACK You can play a specific title or chapter repeatedly. (Title repeat, chapter repeat, all repeat, A-B repeat) Repeating a chapter You can play the same chapter repeatedly. 1. While the disc is playing, press the REPEAT DISC button until the REPEAT: [CHAPTER] indicator displays on the screen. The current chapter is played repeatedly. Repeating a title You can play the same title repeatedly. 2. While the disc is playing, press the REPEAT DISC button until the REPEAT: [TITLE] indicator displays on the screen. The current title is played repeatedly. Repeating a whole disc 3. While the disc is playing, press the REPEAT DISC button until the REPEAT: [ALL REPEAT] indicator displays on the screen. The whole disc is played repeatedly. To resume normal playback 4. While the disc is playing, press the REPEAT DISC button until the REPEAT: [OFF] indicator displays on the screen. You can play a single track and whole disc repeatedly. Repeating a single track You can play the same track repeatedly. 1. While the disc is playing, press the REPEAT DISC button until the REPEAT: [REP 1] indicator displays on the screen. The current track is played repeatedly. Repeating a whole disc 2. While the disc is playing, press the REPEAT DISC button until the REPEAT: [ALL REPEAT] indicator displays on the screen. The whole disc is played repeatedly. To resume normal playback 3. Press the REPEAT DISC button until the REPEAT: [OFF] indicator displays on the screen. You can play a specific section repeatedly. Repeating a specific section 1. While the disc is playing, press the REPEAT A-B button at the beginning of the section ( REPEAT A- is displayed) you want to play repeatedly. 2. Press the REPEAT A-B button again at the end of the section ( REPEAT A-B is displayed). 3. The unit will immediately begin replaying your selection. To resume normal playback 4. While the disc is playing, press the REPEAT A-B button until the REPEAT A-B OFF indicator displays on the screen. Notes: • Some discs may not permit A-B repeat operation. • A-B repeat can only be used within the same title. If the start and end of the section to be repeated are in different titles, A-B repeat is cancelled. • You can specify a segment only within the current title or track. • The A-B repeat function does not operate in scenes where different camera angles are recorded. Programmable memory Playing Titles/Chapters/Tracks in a Favorite Order You can combine your favorite titles/chapters/tracks and play them in the order you determine. 1. Press the MEMORY button and the following display appears. 2. Select the items in the order you want by pressing the number buttons. Each time you press the Cursor buttons ( , , , ), Title Chapter the space is highlighted. Highlight where you want to enter, then press the corresponding number buttons. 3. Press the Cursor buttons ( , , , ) to move the highlighted bar to "PLAY", then press the OK button. The DVD player starts memory playback. 4. To resume normal playback from memory playback PROGRAM PLAY CLEAR a) Press the MEMORY button. b) Press the Cursor buttons ( , , , ) to move the highlighted bar to "CLEAR", then press the OK button to clear all the input programs. Alternatively, you can press the STOP button to Track clear all the input programs. c) Press the PLAY button to resume normal playback. Notes: • If the title, chapter or track numbers you entered is not permitted by the disc, after you press the OK button, it will restore to PROGRAM PLAY CLEAR (title, chapter) or (track). You should re-enter correct numbers. • Some discs may not permit memory playback operation. • If you select repeat during memory playback, the DVD player repeats the current memory playback. • If you press the MEMORY button while the display appears on the TV screen, the display disappears. • The programmed selections will be cleared when you open the disc tray or turn off the DVD player. - 7 - CUSTOMIZING THE FUNCTION SETTINGS System HDMI RESOLUTION TV SHAPE DEFAULT HDMI Resolution 1. Press the SETUP button. 2. Press the / button to select HDMI RESOLUTION. 3. Press the OK button, then the / button to select the options (480p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p). 4. Press the OK button. 5. Press the SETUP or RETURN button to exit the menu. Note: Select the resolution according to the performance of the connected TV. TV Shape 1. Press the SETUP button. 2. Press the / button to select TV SHAPE. 3. Press the OK button, then the / button to select the options (4:3PS, 4:3LB or 16:9). 4. Press the OK button. 5. Press the SETUP or RETURN button to exit the menu. 4:3 PS (Pan Scan) • When wide-screen video is played, this mode clips the right and Cut off when a widescreen video image is played. left sides of the image so that it can be viewed on a conventional screen. • Some wide-screen DVDs that do not permit Pan Scan mode playback are 4:3 PS automatically played in Letter Box mode (black bands top and bottom). 4:3 LB (Letter Box) • When wide-screen video is played in this mode on a conventional 4:3 LB screen, black bands appear at the top and bottom of the screen. 16:9 (Wide Screen) • This is the correct mode for playing 16:9 widescreen videos on a wide-screen. Notes: • The displayable picture size is preset on the DVD. Therefore, the playback picture of some DVDs may not conform to the picture size you select. • When you play DVDs recorded in the 4:3 picture size only, the playback picture always appears in the 4:3 picture size regardless of the TV shape setting. • Always be sure that your TV shape conforms to the actual TV in use if you connect the unit to a TV. Default 1. Press the SETUP button. 2. Press the / button to select DEFAULT. 3. Press the OK button, then the / button to select "YES". 4. Press OK button to confirm, the RESTORE WARNING dialogue window displays. RESTORE WARNING Reset to factory default? 10 SECS YES NO 5. Press the / button to select "YES" and press the OK button, the original setting will be restored. The unit will exit the default setting menu automatically and re-load the disc in the disc tray. Note: It will take 3-5 seconds to reset the DVD player to the factory default. Language 4. Press the OK button, then the / button to shift and change the Language. 5. Press the OK button. 6. Press the SETUP or RETURN button to exit the menu. Audio Language 1. Press the SETUP button. 2. Press the / button to select (language). 3. Press the / button to select AUDIO LANG. 4. Press the OK button, then the / button to shift and change the Language. 5. Press the OK button. 6. Press the SETUP or RETURN button to exit the menu. Note: Some DVDs may not be played in the language you selected. A prior language may be programmed on the disc. Subtitle Language 1. Press the SETUP button. 2. Press the / button to select (language). 3. Press the / button to select SUBTITLE LANG. 4. Press the OK button, then the / button to shift and change the Language. 5. Press the OK button. 6. Press the SETUP or RETURN button to exit the menu. Notes: • Some DVDs may be set to display subtitles in a different language other than the ones you selected. A prior subtitle language may be programmed on the disc. • Some DVDs allow you to change subtitle selections using the disc menu only. If this is the case, press the MENU button and choose the appropriate subtitle language from the selection on the disc menu. Menu Language 1. Press the SETUP button. 2. Press the / button to select (language). 3. Press the / button to select MENU LANG. 4. Press the OK button, then the / button to shift and change the Language. 5. Press the OK button. 6. Press the SETUP or RETURN button to exit the menu. Note: • Some DVDs may not include your pre-selected language. In this case, the DVD player automatically displays disc menus consistent with the disc's initial language setting. Audio AUDIO OUT Audio Output 1. Press the SETUP button. 2. Press the / button to select (audio). 3. Press the / button to select AUDIO OUT. 4. Press the OK button, then press the / button to select the output sound format (OFF, RAW or PCM). 5. Press the OK button. 6. Press the SETUP or RETURN button to exit the menu. RAW Disc audio raw data will be output. Select this when connected to a multichannel (eg home theater) "surround sound" amplifier. PCM Select this when connected to a stereo amplifier. OFF To disable Digital Output. Note: If you connected to a TV using HDMI, and you are using the TV's speakers for your audio source, then make sure to select "PCM".
