For instructions on how to obtain service, refer to the warranty included in this user manual. Plugging in for power AC OUTLET POWER SUPPLY: 120V~60Hz • The AC power plug is polarized (one blade is wider than the other) and only fits into AC power outlets one way. • If the plug will not go into the outlet completely, turn the plug over and try to insert it the other way. • If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to change the outlet, or use a different one. • Do not attempt to bypass this safety feature. • Power is fed to the unit even when it is not functioning. To cut the power supply off, the power cable must be unplugged. Battery back-up operation • This clock radio is equipped with a memory holding system that can be powered with 2 "AA" batteries (included). • The power failure protection circuit will not operate unless battery is installed. • When normal household power is interrupted, or AC line cord is unplugged, the batteries will power the clock radio to keep track of time and alarm settings programmed into memory. • When the battery backup functions, the digital display will not light, however, the function of alarm still occurs during the power interruption if remaining battery power is adequate. • Normal operation will resume after AC power is restored so you will not have to reset the time or the alarm. To install the batteries: 1. Remove battery compartment door (located at the bottom of the radio) by applying thumb pressure to the tab on battery door and then lift the door out and off the cabinet. 2. Insert 2 AA batteries (included). 3. Replace the compartment door. Note: we recommend that you replace the batteries every year. Power failure indicator When AC power is interrupted (disconnected) for a short period of time, both time and alarm settings will change (unless battery is installed). After AC power is restored (reconnected), the Digital Display will blink to indicate that power was interrupted and you should readjust the time and alarm settings. Important battery precautions • Any battery may present a risk of fire, explosion, or chemical burn if abused. Do not try to charge a battery that is not intended to be recharged, do not incinerate, and do not puncture. • Non-rechargeable batteries, such as alkaline batteries, may leak if left in your product for a long period of time. Remove the batteries from the product if you are not going to use it for a month or more. • If your product uses more than one battery, do not mix types and make sure they are inserted correctly. Mixing types or inserting incorrectly may cause them to leak. • Discard any leaky or deformed battery immediately. They may cause skin burns or other personal injury. • Please help to protect the environment by recycling or disposing of batteries according to federal, state, and local regulations. Top and front OFF - turns off the unit; turns off the wake function and sleep mode ON (RADIO/AUX) - turns on the radio or auxiliary input mode REV / FWD - sets clock or wake time SET - selects setting wake time ( ), clock time ( ) or lock the current wake and clock time settings ( ) WAKE MODE - selects wake to radio ( ), wake to alarm ( ) or deactivate the wake function (OFF) SLEEP - activates the Sleep function SNOOZE/LIGHT - turns off the wake function temporarily; cancels the sleep function; turns on the night light briefly with AUTO mode selected (refer to Night light for more information) NAP - activates the NAP function General controls Clock Display Left and right Back Bottom TIME ZONE TUNING - selects radio frequency VOLUME - adjusts sound volume BAND - selects radio band (FM/AM) LIGHT - selects On, Off or Auto mode for the night light located at the bottom of the unit DISPLAY - adjusts the display brightness AUX IN - connects external audio source (e.g. mp3 player) with an audio cable (not supplied) TIME ZONE - selects time zone DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME - switches the daylight saving time on or off Before plugging for power 1. Set the Time Zone Slide the time zone selector at the bottom of the unit to Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific. (Refer to the maps on the right) 2. Set the Daylight Saving Time Slide the day light saving selector at the bottom of the unit to turn on/off in areas observing/not observing such time change. The icon shows on the display when daylight saving time is active. WARNING: Please avoid playing with these buttons after entering the Clock/ Alarm set mode. Auto clock set You do not have to set the clock time as a built-in automatic time set system is equipped in this clock powered by 3V (2 X AA batteries, included). All you have to do is to plug this clock for power and current time will be shown automatically. However, the batteries can also be exhausted and we recommend that you replace the batteries every year. Setting clock manually 1. Slide SET to . 2. Press REV or FWD to set the clock time. The time decrements or increments will follow by a faster rate when you press and hold the buttons. AM or PM also shows beside the time on the display. 3. When finished, slide SET to to lock the current setting. To use the automatic night light mode: • Press SNOOZE/LIGHT to turn on the night light for about 5 seconds. • The night light also turns on when the wake function activates. Night light To select the night light setting: Night light is located at the bottom of the unit. Slide LIGHT on the left of the unit to select one of the following settings: • ON - always turns on the night light; • AUTO - turns on the automatic night light mode; • OFF - always turns off the night light. Radio Auxiliary input Switching on or off Press ON (RADIO/AUX) to turn on the radio. Press OFF to turn it off. Switching band Slide BAND on the left of the unit to select AM or FM band. Tuning radio Rotate TUNING on the right of the unit to select radio frequency. Current radio frequency shows on the display. Antennas • AM Antenna - A built-in ferrite rod antenna eliminates the need for an outside antenna for AM reception. Rotating the unit slightly may improve reception of distant AM stations. • FM Antenna - The power cord acts as your FM antenna. The power cord picks up moderate to strong stations and eliminates the need for an external antenna in most strong signal areas. Be sure the power cord is stretched out to its full length. Do not coil or bunch the cord together. Changing position of the power cord may improve reception. • Built-In AFC - The Built In Automatic Frequency Control (AFC) works only on FM. It helps reducing drift on FM reception and keeping the radio locked in on the FM station to which it is tuned. When tuning in FM stations, you may notice that the station you are tuning can be well-tuned on two or three nearby points on the dial. Always tune carefully at the loudest and clearest point. 1. Connect your auxiliary input source (e.g. mp3 player) to the AUX IN jack on the back of the unit with an audio cable (not supplied). 2. Press ON (RADIO/AUX) twice to turn on the unit and select the AUX mode. • The AUX icon lights on the display. 3. Start playback from the auxiliary source. 4. Adjust the auxiliary source to mid-range volume and adjust the master volume by rotating the VOLUME knob on the unit. • Do not turn the volume of the auxiliary source too high as this may affect the sound quality. • For other playback operations, control them on your auxiliary source. 5. When finished listening, press ON (RADIO/AUX) to switch to the radio or press OFF to turn off the unit. Wake function Setting wake time 1. Slide SET to . 2. Press REV or FWD to set the wake time. The time decrements or increments will follow by a faster rate when you press and hold the buttons. • Currently set wake time shows on the smaller display located at the upper right corner. AM or PM indicator also lights beside the wake time. Refer to Wake time display. 3. When finished, slide SET to to lock the current setting. Selecting wake source Slide WAKE MODE to or . • - wake to radio • - wake to alarm • The indicator lights against the wake source icon on the smaller display located at the upper right corner. Refer to Wake time display. • Once the wake source is selected, the wake function will be activated at the set wake time. Wake time display • The smaller wake time display is located at the upper right corner of the unit. • The above example shows the wake time is set at 8:30am with alarm selected as the wake source. Turning off the wake function To silence the wake function temporarily for extra sleep time: • With SmartSnooze™, press SNOOZE/LIGHT, SLEEP or NAP to turn off the wake function temporarily for extra sleep time. , or • The wake function will activate again when the snooze period (9 minutes) is over. • The snooze period is fixed and cannot be changed. To stop the wake function: Press OFF. The wake function will activate again on the following day at the same time. To cancel the wake function completely: • Slide WAKE MODE to OFF. No indicator lights against the wake source icon. • The wake time display shows OFF to indicate that wake function has been deactivated. • The set wake time will not be erased and can be used the next time when you switch on wake function again. Wake to Alarm uses GRAD-U-WAKE, a gentle increase to the maximum alarm tone volume over 30 to 45 seconds. Sleep function You can set the radio to play for a set length of time (up to 90 min) before turning off automatically. Press SLEEP repeatedly to select a duration (90, 60, 30, 15 min or OFF) before the radio turns off automatically. • The default sleep time is 90 minutes. • The radio will be switched on once SLEEP is pressed. • If you set Sleep function with low volume level before going to bed, we advise using the Wake to Alarm mode. • To check the remaining duration before the unit turns off, press SLEEP once. • To cancel the sleep function, press SNOOZE/LIGHT or OFF. NAP function For catnaps up to 2 hours without disturbing the regular wake function settings. The NAP function wakes you up after a set length of time. 1. Press NAP repeatedly to cycle among the NAP time available (10 min, 20min, 30min, 60min, 90min and OFF; 20min is the default setting). • Press NAP once to show briefly the NAP time left. • Only alarm tone can be used with the NAP function. • Press OFF to cancel the NAP alarm, or press and hold NAP until the NAP icon no longer shows on the display to cancel the NAP function. • The NAP icon flashes on the display while adjusting. 2. When the desired NAP time is selected, release NAP and wait for about 5 seconds, the NAP time is now set. • The icon NAP lights on the display. Warranty information 12 Month Limited Warranty Applies to RCA Audio/Video Products • AUDIOVOX ELECTRONICS CORP. (the Company) warrants to the original retail purchaser of this product that should this product or any part thereof, under normal use and conditions, be proven defective in material or workmanship within 12 months from the date of original purchase, such defect(s) will be repaired or replaced with reconditioned product (at the Company's option) without charge for parts and repair labor. • To obtain repair or replacement within the terms of this Warranty, the product is to be delivered with proof of warranty coverage (e.g. dated bill of sale), specification of defect(s), transportation prepaid, to the Company at the address shown below. • This Warranty does not extend to the elimination of externally generated static or noise, to correction of antenna problems, loss/interruptions of broadcast or internet service, to costs incurred for installation, removal or reinstallation of product, to corruptions caused by computer viruses, spyware or other malware, to loss of media, files, data or content, or to damage to tapes, discs, removable memory devices or cards, speakers, accessories, computers, computer peripherals, other media players, home networks or vehicle electrical systems. • This Warranty does not apply to any product or part thereof which, in the opinion of the Company, has suffered or been damaged through alteration, improper installation, mishandling, misuse, neglect, accident, or by removal or defacement of the factory serial number/bar code label(s). THE EXTENT OF THE COMPANY'S LIABILITY UNDER THIS WARRANTY IS LIMITED TO THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT PROVIDED ABOVE AND, IN NO EVENT, SHALL THE COMPANY'S LIABILITY EXCEED THE PURCHASE PRICE PAID BY PURCHASER FOR THE PRODUCT. • This Warranty is in lieu of all other express warranties or liabilities. How to make a warranty claim: • If your product is capable of storing content (such as an mp3 player, digital voice recorder, etc), it is recommended to make periodic backup copies of content stored on the product. If applicable, before shipping a product, make a back up copy of content or data stored on the device. Also, it is advisable to remove any personal content which you would not want exposed to others. IT IS LIKELY THAT CONTENTS AND DATA ON THE DEVICE WILL BE LOST DURING SERVICE AND REFORMATTING. AUDIOVOX ACCEPTS NO LIABILITY FOR LOST CONTENT OR DATA, OR FOR THE SECURITY OF ANY PERSONAL CONTENT OR DATA ON THE RETURNED DEVICE. Product will be returned with factory default settings, and without any preloaded content which may have been installed in the originally purchased products. Consumer will be responsible for reloading data and content. Consumer will be responsible to restore any personal preference settings. • Properly pack your unit. Include any remotes, memory cards, cables, etc. which were originally provided with the product. However DO NOT return any removable batteries, even if batteries were included with the original purchase. We recommend using the original carton and packing materials. • Include evidence of purchase date such as the bill of sale. Also print your name and address and a description of the defect. What we will do: Provide you with a new, or at our option, a refurbished unit. The exchange unit is under warranty for the remainder of the original product's warranty period.
