Desktop SAME Weatheradio® 12-261 Quick Start Guide for installing, setting up and using your new product Step One Powering the Weatheradio Your Weatheradio uses the supplied AC adapter for power, and a 9V backup battery (not supplied) if AC power fails or is disconnected. AC Power 1. Insert the supplied AC adapter's barrel plug into the weatheradio©'s DC 9V jack. 2. Plug the other end of the adapter into a standard AC outlet. Backup Battery 1. Slide the battery compartment cover downward to remove it. 2. Place a 9V battery in the compartment according to the polarity symbols. ALARM ON/OFF/ SNOOZE ALERT ON/OFF ALERT OUT EXT. ANT. DC 9V Jack Jack 3. Replace the cover. When ² appears on the display, backup battery power is low. When ² flashes and AC power is connected, the battery is dead, or not installed correctly. Replace or install a fresh battery. CLOCK - Press to set the clock and alarm time. Liquid Crystal Display - a large, easy-to-read display shows alert and channel information. WEATHER/SNOOZE - Press to listen to a broadcast. Press to stop the alarm from sounding or to snooze.. ADVISORY/WATCH/ WARNING LEDs - Light to indicate the severity of a weather alert. e, d, f, g - Press to navigate programming menus. MENU - Press to select programming options. Step Two Programming Your Weatheradio is preset to receive any weather alert broadcast within its reception range. The first time you use your Weatheradio©, it automatically scans for the strongest channel and receives all SAME alert signals broadcast within a 50-mile radius of its location. If you do not press any key within about 45 seconds, all valid channels are stored. The Weatheradio does not receive alert signals while it is being programmed. 1. Press MENU. SEL CH appears. 2. Repeatedly press e or d to scroll through and customize the following six menu options: Channel Setup, Alert Type Setup, Missed Alert Reminder, Signal Loss Reminder, Response Location, and Tone Defeat. 3. Refer to your owner's manual for details on how to customize each option. Step Three Operation 1. Connect the Weatheradio to power. 2. The Weatheradio starts searching channels. SEARCH, CHANNEL and the channel number (1 to 7) appear. 3. When a channel is detected, WEATHER, CHANNEL #, AVLABLE, and Ê appear. 4. If no channels are detected, NO CH AVLABLE, BACK TO, and CHANNEL # (last set channel) appear. Ê flashes. 5. The Weatheradio monitors the signal strength at all times. If the signal is lost, SIGNAL LOSS appears, and Ê and the alert type LEDs flash. Listening to a Weather Broadcast 1. To listen to a weather broadcast, press WEATHER. NOAA appears. 2. Repeatedly press e or d to adjust the volume level (from 1-16). VOL # appears. 3. To turn off the weather broadcast, press WEATHER. NOAA disappears. Using the Alert To set the alert to sound when the NWS broadcasts a warning, watch, or statement, slide ALERT ON/OFF to ON. i appears. To deactivate the alert, slide ALERT ON/OFF to OFF.
