WallStation Antenna Hints Version 0.85 July 18, 2005 Dan Quittman, Sony CS&A Antenna Installation Hints and Guidelines General • Keep all antenna wiring away from AC electrical wiring to minimize interference. Avoid long antenna runs that closely parallel AC wires. • All antennas placed behind the wall must be rigidly affixed to studs and conform to all local codes. • Any antenna mounted outdoors must be properly grounded and lightning-arrested, and should be installed by persons knowledgeable and experienced in these matters. AM Antenna • The AM antenna should be mounted a few feet above the WallStation and facing edgeon to transmiters to maximize reception. • Extending AM antenna leads is not recommended and can lead to reduced reception and increased levels of interference. • AM reception may be particularly compromised in some types of home construction, particularly those using foil-wrapped insulation and/or aluminum siding. FM Antenna • Connection to an external FM antenna is recommended for best performance. • When distributing the signal from an external antenna throughout the home, be sure to use a quality splitter and CATV-type RG-6 coax.
