n 143 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Protecting the Hard Disk If your computer is equipped with a built-in hard disk drive, then it has the VAIO HDD Protection utility preinstalled for customizing your settings for protecting your hard disk drive against shock hazards. You can select the sensitivity level of the built-in shock sensor to set the appropriate protection level. See the online Specifications whether your computer is equipped with the hard disk drive. ! Be aware that the built-in flash memory storage is not included in the scope of the VAIO HDD Protection utility. Activating VAIO HDD Protection To protect your hard disk drive against shock hazards, you must first activate VAIO HDD Protection. To activate VAIO HDD Protection 1 Click Start, All Programs, and VAIO Central. 2 Click Security on the Categories tab and double-click Hard Disk Drive Protection Settings. The setup window appears. 3 Select the Activate hard disk drive protection check box. 4 Select one of the desired sensitivity level. 5 Click OK. For more information, click Help on the setup window to open the help file. ! VAIO HDD Protection is designed to minimize possibilities of damage to hard disk drives and user data. It does not assure 100% data protection under any circumstances. Hard disk drive protection is disabled before Windows launches and during a shift to Hibernate or Sleep mode, Instant Mode, system recovery, and system shutdown.
