Appendix C: Setting Up Digital TV This appendix guides you through the basic steps to use in Microsoft® Media Center in Windows Vista™ for setting up the digital TV tuner in your VGX-XL3 Digital Living System, and also takes you through the steps for setting up the required components such as the internet connection for your computer, and then using MCE for setting up TV stations for Digital TV. You can also refer to the Media Center User Guide for Windows Vista located online in your VGXXL3 in VAIO Help and Support for detailed instructions. Advantages of Digital TV with Media Center Some advantages of Digital TV using Media Center are: • Screen Resolution - Screen resolutions of more six times that of traditional analog programming - super-sharp images. • Screen Aspect Ratio - 16:9 aspect ratio provides a widescreen picture for a more theater-like experience. • Dolby Digital Support - Up to six channels of sound can be encoded into an ATSC OTA (Over The Air) broadcast or digital cable TV. • Digital Signal - No more snowy picture or ghost images • Cost - Hardware needed to receive ATSC Over The Air (OTA) TV broadcasts can be inexpensive. Antennas can be indoor 'rabbit ears' or 'fish bone' type or outdoor roof-/poll-/chimney-mounted type.
