Installing the spark plug 1 English Replacing the Starter Rope and Rewind Spring Remove the fan housing N Remove the shroud - see "Shroud" 1 1 5902BA016 KN 5902BA028 KN 2 Warning! To reduce the risk of fire and burn injury, use only spark plugs authorized by STIHL. Always press spark plug boot (1) snugly onto spark plug terminal (2) of the proper size. (Note: If terminal has detachable SAE adapter nut, it must be attached.) A loose connection between spark plug boot and ignition wire connector in the boot may create arcing that could ignite combustible fumes and cause a fire. 000BA071 KN N Insert the spark plug through the grommet and screw it in by hand. N Tighten down the spark plug, fit the boot and press it down firmly. N Install the shroud - see "Shroud". 1 1 N Remove screws (1) N Push hand guard upward N Pull the bottom of the fan housing away from the crankcase and remove downwards Remove the rope rotor For standard versions 2710BA004 KN 2 3 1 N Carefully press the spring clip (1) off of the axle with a screwdriver or suitable pliers N Carefully remove the rope rotor with washer (2) and pawl (3) MS 271, MS 291, MS 291 C 43

Installing the spark plug

Insert the spark plug through the
grommet and screw it in by hand.

Tighten down the spark plug, fit the
boot and press it down firmly.

Install the shroud – see "Shroud".
Remove the fan housing
N
Remove the shroud – see "Shroud"
N
Remove screws (1)
N
Push hand guard upward
N
Pull the bottom of the fan housing
away from the crankcase and
remove downwards
Remove the rope rotor
For standard versions
N
Carefully press the spring clip
(1) off
of the axle with a screwdriver or
suitable pliers
N
Carefully remove the rope rotor with
washer (2) and pawl (3)
Warning!
