Introduction Recording Recording HDD DVD-RAM DVD-R Recording an external source You can record programs from connected equipment on the HDD or a DVD-RAM/R disc. Connect according to A or B. • To record a clearer picture, use the S video jack. Yellow ON / STANDBY White CH Red INPUT SELECT REC MODE DIMMER PROG/HDMI INPUT 2 (L-2) HDD TIMESLIP DVD Playback Editing Library Function setup Others Preparation • When you record on a DVD-RAM/R disc, load it into the recorder. - Load a disc which has sufficient remaining space to record the program. - Make sure the loaded disc is not write-protected. Notes • Even if a source of high quality sound track such as DVD audio is recorded with this recorder, the sound quality becomes regular audio CD's one. Refer to the instructions of the connected equipment. • When you record an external source onto a DVD-R disc or a contents which will be copied to a DVD-R disc later on, set the connected equipment to output sound you want to record (if selectable such as multiplex broadcasting), as the recorder records sounds of external source in the stereo type onto a DVD-R disc, neglecting the setting of "DVD compatible mode" ( page 162). • DVD-R discs cannot record contents with copy restriction signal embedded (copy-protected or copy once contents), DVDRAM discs can record copy once contents. • Some satellite programs via a connected tuner may contain both 4:3 pictures and 16:9 pictures. DVD-R discs cannot record such contents under the restriction of DVD-Video standard. To record them, use the HDD or DVD-RAM discs. (Continued) 39
