Basic playback Playing a Disc This section shows you the basics on how to play a disc. CAUTION Keep your fingers well clear of the disc tray as it is closing. Neglecting to do so may cause serious personal injury. POWER indicator 3 2, 4 PLAY 1 DVD VCD Basic playback CD DISC-1/2 indicators DISC SELECT DVD display PAUSE STOP Preparations • When you want to view a disc, turn on the TV and select the video input connected to the DVD video player. • When you want to enjoy the sound of discs from the audio system, turn on the audio system and select the input connected to the DVD video player. 1 Press POWER. POWER The DVD video player turns on and the POWER indicator on the player illuminates. When the DVD video player is turned on for the first time, a message appears. Press ENTER, and make the proper settings before proceeding to step 2. 64 2 Press OPEN/CLOSE (1/2). OPEN/CLOSE Press either button you want. 1 The disc tray opens. OPEN/CLOSE 2 3 Place a disc on the disc tray. With the playback side down. Do not place more than one disc. • There are two different disc sizes. Place the disc in the correct guide on the disc tray. If the disc is out of the guide, it may damage the disc and cause the DVD video player to malfunction. • Do not place a disc which is unplayable in this DVD video player. 4 Press OPEN/CLOSE (1/2) to close the disc tray. OPEN/CLOSE 1 OPEN/CLOSE 2 Press the button which you pressed in step 2. To load another disc, press the other button. Playback starts. If you insert a DVD video disc that contains a top menu, a menu may appear. See "Locating a title using the top menu." 30 You may need to press the TOP MENU or MENU button to display disc menu (depending on the actual DVD video disc.) • If the disc tray contains a disc you have already played, playback will begin from the location where you last stopped playback. To change the disc Press DISC SELECT repeatedly to select the disc you want. DISC SELECT DISC-1 Red (lit): The disc is on standby or is being played. Green (lit): Secondary standby. DISC-2 Off: Playback does not start. To start playback in the stop mode Press PLAY. PLAY Note While playing a disc, you can insert another disc. Press the OPEN/CLOSE (1/2) button to add, or remove a disc not being played. 26

Playing a Disc
This section shows you the basics on how to play a disc.

Preparations
• When you want to view a disc, turn on the TV and select the video input connected to the DVD video player.
• When you want to enjoy the sound of discs from the audio system, turn on the audio system and select the input connected
to the DVD video player.

Press POWER.
The DVD video player turns on and
the POWER indicator on the player
illuminates.
When the DVD video player is turned on for
the first time, a message appears. Press
ENTER, and make the proper settings before
proceeding to step 2.

Press either button you want.
The disc tray opens.
Place a disc on the disc tray.
With the playback
side down.
Do not place more
than one disc.
• There are two different disc sizes. Place the disc in
the correct guide on the disc tray. If the disc is out
of the guide, it may damage the disc and cause the
DVD video player to malfunction.
• Do not place a disc which is unplayable in this
DVD video player.
DISC-1/2 indicators
Press OPEN/CLOSE (1/2) to close the
disc tray.
Press the button which you pressed
in step 2.
To load another disc, press the other
button.
Playback starts.
If you insert a DVD video disc that contains a top
menu, a menu may appear. See “Locating a title
using the top menu.”

You may need to press the TOP MENU or MENU
button to display disc menu (depending on the
actual DVD video disc.)
• If the disc tray contains a disc you have already
played, playback will begin from the location where
you last stopped playback.
To change the disc
Press
DISC SELECT
repeatedly to select the disc you
want.
Red (lit):
The disc is on standby
or is being played.
Green (lit): Secondary standby.
Off:
Playback does not
start.
To start playback in the stop mode
Press
PLAY
.
Note
While playing a disc, you can insert another disc. Press the
OPEN/CLOSE (1/2) button to add, or remove a disc not being
played.
