120 Mobile Computing Changing the main battery When handling battery packs, do not short-circuit the terminals. Also do not drop, hit or otherwise apply impact; do not scratch or break the casing and do not twist or bend the battery pack. Do not remove the battery pack while the computer is in Standby Mode. Data is stored in RAM, so if the computer loses power it will be lost. In Hibernation Mode, data will be lost if you remove the battery or disconnect the AC adaptor before the save is completed. Wait for the Built-in HDD indicator to go out. Do not touch the latch while holding the computer. This may cause injury by accidentally dropping the battery. Inserting a charged battery To insert a battery: 1 Wipe the terminals of the charged battery with a clean cloth to ensure a good connection. 2 Insert the charged battery into the slot until the latch clicks. The battery pack has been designed so that you cannot install it with reverse polarity. If the battery does not slide into the slot easily, move the battery release lock to the unlocked position and try again. Do not force the battery into position.
