90 Learning the Basics Using the DVD-ROM or multi-function drive TECHNICAL NOTE: Your DVD-ROM or multi-function drive is set to play region 1 (North America) DVD-ROMs. If you cannot view the DVD because of a region error, be sure to change the region code in the Windows® operating system. The drive will allow you to change regions four times. On the fourth change, the region will be "locked in." That is, the drive will only play DVDs from that last region. Note that changing from region 1 to region 2 and back to region 1 is counted as two changes. You must launch the Windows operating system to change the DVD region, but once the region has been changed, you can then play the DVD. Inserting a compact disc To insert a compact disc into the drive: 1 Make sure the computer is turned on. 2 Make sure the in-use indicator light is off. 3 Press the drive's eject button. The disc tray slides partially out of the drive (about 1 inch). Sample drive tray fully extended HINT: The drive will not open if the computer's power is off.
