Owner's Manual Replacement Battery Cartridge (R.B.C.) IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. Congratulations! Your new long-lasting, high-performance Replacement Battery Cartridge (R.B.C.), properly selected, is designed to extend the life of your UPS system. All R.B.C.s are valve-regulated and employ spill-proof construction. No special handling is required. R.B.C. cases (constructed of either ABS plastic, styrene or polypropylene) are non-conductive and have a high resistance to shock, vibration, chemicals and heat. State-of-the-art design techniques and high quality plate production processes used to construct your R.B.C. provide a battery with an extremely high energy density and a superior power-to-volume and power-to-weight ratio. All R.B.C.s are certified to provide: • Compatibility with all UPS systems, when properly selected • Completely maintenance-free operation • Economical pricing • Rugged construction for long service life • High discharge rate with deep discharge recovery • Wide operating temperature range SAFETY Read before attempting battery replacement! Important Safety Instructions! Save these instructions! This manual contains important instructions and warnings that should be followed during the installation and operation of all Tripp Lite Replacement Battery Cartridges (R.B.C.s). WARNING! • Follow the original UPS system manufacturer's instructions and safety information thoroughly before attempting replacement. • To eliminate high voltage shock hazard, be sure the UPS system is turned off and the power cord is unplugged from the AC outlet prior to battery replacement. Some manufacturers permit "hot swap" battery replacement while the UPS system is powered. Consult your UPS system's owner's manual for guidance. • Do not dispose of batteries in a fire; they may explode. • Do not open or mutilate the battery. Chemicals released are harmful to the skin or eyes and may be toxic. Follow first-aid procedures for chemical burns in the event of exposure. Use appropriate protective clothing when handling a leaking battery. • A battery can present a risk of high current in the event of a short circuit. High discharge can lead to severe burns and/or the risk of fire. Observe the following precautions when working around high capacity storage batteries: 1) remove watches, rings or other metal objects that might come in contact with battery terminals; 2) use tools with insulated handles; 3) do not lay tools or metal parts on top of the battery or near the terminals. BATTERY REPLACEMENT After following the safety procedures listed above: 1) Disconnect UPS system from power source. 2) Open battery compartment. 3) Disconnect and recycle used batteries. Connect new Replacement Battery Cartridge(s). Note: in order to properly reconnect multiple batteries, first take note of battery position and cable connections (by drawing a sketch) before disconnection. 4) Close battery compartment. Consult www.tripplite.com for the most popular battery recommendations. When making your selection, whether or not your manufacturer and/or UPS system model number is listed, it is prudent to verify the following information: battery voltage* [example, 12 V (Volts)]; battery capacity* when optimally charged [example, 7.2 AH (Amp Hours)]; battery dimensions;** and battery quantity.*** * Usually marked on the battery. ** This is important because manufacturers sometimes change battery content without changing model numbers. *** In multiple battery systems, manufacturers recommend that all batteries be replaced at the same time. 1111 W. 35th Street, Chicago, IL 60609 USA • www.tripplite.com/support Copyright © 2014 Tripp Lite.
