Expansion Handset for 2.4 GHz Spread Spectrum Multiple-Handset Cordless Telephone EASY TO USE OWNER'S GUIDE INITIAL SETUP Congratulations! You have purchased one of the most sophisticated and versatile cordless telephone systems available. The handset will function as either a one-line or a two-line phone, depending on which base unit you have purchased. Please note that this handset must be connected to a multiple handset system base. Once the handset is programmed with the same Security Code as the base unit, it will immediately function as part of the system. INSTALL THE CHARGING CRADLE Connect the AC adapter to the back of the charging cradle and plug into an electric outlet. Following are brief instructions to program this handset. For detailed instructions to operate your multiple handset system, please refer to the Owner's Guide included with the system Starter set. INSTALL THE HANDSET BATTERY Slide open the battery compartment cover and connect the NiMH battery pack as shown in the illustration below. Enclosed within the packaging: s Cordless Handset s Charging Cradle s AC Adapter s Belt Clip s Battery Pack MH-202 M1S1 12/00 Printed in China CHARGING THE BATTERY Place the handset in the charging cradle. The battery will fully charge after approximately 10-12 hours. SYSTEM REGISTRATION (SECURITY CODE) All handsets must be programmed with the SAME security code (Sec. Code) in order to operate as a system. If you don't remember the system security code, refer to one of the handsets already in-use to obtain the code. VIEWING THE SYSTEM SECURITY CODE 1 Press PRG (Program) on a system handset that is already in-use. PROGRAMMING THE SYSTEM SECURITY CODE 1 Press PRG (Program) on the new handset. 2 Press v or w until "Sec Code" displays. 3 Press "#" to begin programming the security code. 2 Press v or w (on the side of the handset) until "Sec Code" displays. Sec Code 123456 3 The 6-digit code displayed on the second line is your system security code. 4 Use the same 6-digit code to program all additional handsets. 4 Using the keypad, enter the 6-digit code. 5 Press OFF or PRG to end the programming session OR press v or w to advance to another programming step. 6 If your system was already operating before you added the additional handset, the new handset now will be ready to work as part of the system. 7 If you are setting-up the system for the first time, please refer to the system Owner's Guide for instructions on how to program the base unit security code. NOTE: s Make sure you don't confuse the System Security Code with the Handset ID number. Each handset must have the SAME System Security Code, but they must have DIFFERENT Handset ID numbers. IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. 2. Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations. 3. Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface. 4. Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS When using your telephone equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to persons, including the following: 1. Read and understand all instructions. 2. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the product. 3. Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. 4. Do not use this product near water: for example, near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink or laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool. 5. Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The product may fall, causing serious product damage. 6. Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided for ventilation. To protect it from overheating, these openings must not be blocked or covered by placing the product on the bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This product should not be placed in an enclosed environment unless proper ventilation is provided. 7. Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate this product where the cord will be abused by animals or persons walking on it. 8. Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in the risk of fire or electric shock. 9. Never push objects of any kind into this product through cabinet slots as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a risk of fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product. 10. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this product. Take it to a qualified serviceperson when service or repair work is required. Opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltages or other risks. Incorrect re-assembly can cause electric shock when the appliance is subsequently used. 11. Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: A. When the power supply cord or plug is damaged or frayed. B. If liquid has been spilled into the product. C. If the product has been exposed to rain or water. D. If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions because improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the product to normal operation. E. If the product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged. F. If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance. 12. Avoid using a telephone (other than a cordless type) during an electrical storm. There may be a remote risk of electric shock from lightning. 13. Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak while near the leak. 14. You should use ONLY the power adapter supplied with your telephone. This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules. On the bottom of this equipment is a label
that contains, among other information, the FCC registration number and Ringer Equivalence
Number (REN) for this equipment. If requested, provide this information to your telephone company.

The REN is useful to determine the quantity of devices you may connect to your telephone line and
still have all of those devices ring when your number is called. In most, but not all areas, the sum of
the RENs of all devices should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices you may
connect to your line, as determined by the REN, you should call your local telephone company to
determine the maximum REN for your calling area.
3.
If your telephone causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may discontinue
your service temporarily. If possible, they will notify you in advance. But if advance notice is not
practical, you will be notified as soon as possible. You will be advised of your right to file a complaint
with the FCC.
4.
Your telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures
that could affect the proper operation of your equipment. If they do, you will be given advance notice
so as to give you an opportunity to maintain uninterrupted service.
5.
If there is a problem with this unit, the telephone company may ask you to disconnect this

INSTALL
THE CHARGING CRADLE
Connect the AC adapter to the back of the
charging cradle and plug into an electric
outlet.
Slide open the battery compartment cover
and connect the NiMH battery pack as
shown in the illustration below.
