Leaving Your Vehicle With the Engine Runnir-- , It can be dangerous to leave vehicle with the your engine running. Your vehicle could move suddenly if the shift lever is not fully in PARK (P) -with the parking brake firmly And, if you set. leave the vehicle with theengine running, itcould overheat andeven catch fire. You or others couId be injured. Don't leave your vehicle with the engine runningunless you have to. 'If you have to leave your vehicle with the engine your vehicle is in PAlRK ( ?and.your I) running, be sure ;parkingbrake-isfirmly.set.beforeyou leave it. After the the +you've moved shift lever into PARK (P) position, hold the regular brake pedal down. Then, see if "youcan move the shift lever awayfrsm PARK (P) ,without first pushing'thebutton. If you can, it means PARK 'that the shift lever wasn't fully locked into (P).
