Error Symptom Action/FRU Parallel port test failed 1. Make sure the parallel port is enabled in BIOS setup utility. 2. Make sure the internal cable from the parallel port to the main board is well connected (if applicable). 3. Replace the main board. Serial ports NOTE: Execute "Load BIOS Default Settings" in BIOS Setup to confirm the port's presence before diagnosing any serial port problems. Serial port loop-back test failed. Serial port test failed. 1. Make sure that the serial port you test is properly set in BIOS Setup. 2. Ensure that the internal cable from the serial port to the main board is properly connected. 3. Make sure that the serial port you test is the same one that you tested in the diagnostic program. 4. Replace the loop-back (if applicable). 5. Replace the main board. Serial port failed. 1. Make sure that the serial port you test is properly set in BIOS Setup. 2. Make sure that you are connected to the right serial port. 3. Ensure that the internal cable from the serial port to the main board is properly connected (if applicable). 4. Ensure that the device driver is properly installed. Refer to the device manual. 5. Check the external cables and connections which are connected to the serial device. 6. Replace the serial device. 7. Replace the main board. Keyboard Keyboard test failed. 1. Make sure that the keyboard is properly connected to the keyboard connector (not mouse connector) of the system. 2. Reconnect the keyboard, reboot and test it again. 3. Try another keyboard. Some or all keys on the keyboard do not work. 1. Replace the keyboard. Pointing device Pointing device failed. 1. Make sure that the pointing device is properly connected to the system. 2. Make sure that the pointing device setting is enabled in the BIOS setup utility. 3. Make sure that the pointing device driver is properly installed. 4. Try another pointing device to make sure that the device is good. 5. Replace the main board. USB device USB device failed. 1. Make sure that the USB port is enabled in the BIOS setup utility. 2. Make sure that the USB device is properly connected to the system. 3. Try another USB device to make sure that the device is good. 4. Replace the main board. Power supply NOTE: To test a stand-alone power supply, connect the external power source (power cord) and any of its load (e.g., hard disk drive), locate the green line from the power header, and connect it to a black line. Then turn on the override switch (situated on the back of the power supply). If the power supply fan turns on, the power supply is fine. Pressing the power switch does not turn off the system. (Only unplugging the power cord from the electrical outlet can turn off the system.) 1. Ensure that the Power Switch < 4 sec. in BIOS Setup of Power Management is not set to Suspend. 2. Make sure that the power switch cable assembly is connected properly to the main board. 3. Replace the power switch cable assembly. 74 Chapter 4
