USING ATTACHMENTS AND APPLICATIONS Gathering Stitch Name Straight Stitch Pattern 2 Stitch Length [mm (inch)] 4 (3/16) Loosen the tension of the upper thread so 1 that the lower thread lies on the underside of the material. Sew a single row (or many rows) of 2 straight stitches. Pull the lower threads to gather the 3 material. Darning Stitch Name Straight Stitch Pattern 2 Stitch Length [mm (inch)] Any Raise the presser foot lever, and then slide 1 the feed dog position switch to (see page 15). Remove both the presser foot and presser 2 foot holder assembly and then lower the presser foot lever. Put the section you want to darn under 3 the presser foot together with fabric for reinforcement. Turn on the machine. 4 CAUTION ● Do not turn on the machine while pressing down the foot controller. Begin sewing by alternating between 5 gently drawing the work away from you and pulling it toward you. Note ● Sew while holding the fabric stretched in order to keep the fabric held down. Repeat this motion until the section being 6 darned is filled with parallel lines of stitching. When you are finished darning, slide the feed 7 dog position switch to (see page 15), and turn the handwheel to raise the dogs. Memo ● The feed dog position switch is normally set to the right side. ● The feed dogs come up when you start sewing again. Appliqués Stitch Name Pattern Zigzag 3 Stitch Stitch Length [mm (inch)] F-2 (1/64-1/16) Stitch Width [mm (inch)] Any You can create an appliqué by cutting a different piece of fabric into a shape and applying it as a decoration.
