About This Guide This maintenance and service guide can be used for reference when servicing Compaq ProLiant 8000 Servers and ProLiant 8000 Upgraded Servers. Additional spare parts needed for converting to a Proliant 8000 Server can be found in Chapter 3, "ProLiant 8000 Upgraded Servers Only." Improper repairs could create conditions that are hazardous. IMPORTANT: The installation of options and servicing of this product shall be performed by individuals who are knowledgeable of the procedures, precautions, and hazards associated with equipment containing hazardous energy circuits. Product Identification This service guide can also be used with ProLiant 8000 Upgraded Servers. Refer to Chapter 3 when ordering parts for upgraded servers. Differences between factory-standard ProLiant 8000 Servers and ProLiant 8000 Upgraded Servers are as follows: Feature Drive Cage Power Supply Faceplate Serial Number Table 1-1 Product Identification ProLiant 8000 Server New drive cages with Wide-Ultra2 hard drives 1150-watt powersupply with 12-blade power backplane Opal faceplate with a serial number cutout ProLiant 8000 Upgraded Server May use drive cages with Wide-Ultra SCSI hard drives May use 750-watt power supply with 9-blade power backplane Beach grey faceplate with no serial number Serial number and service number are located on the chassis NOTE: Upgraded servers keep their original serial numbers and receive a new service number. Use the service number for all support contact. Record the numbers and call service to verify warranty status or access the Compaq website (www.compaq.com) for additional information.
