CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT Thecarburetoris notuseradjustable.ContactSearsParts& Repairfor adjustment. LUBRICATION Drive and Shifting Mechanism At least oncea seasonor after every25 hoursof operation,remove rear cover.Lubricateall chains,sprockets,gears,bearings,shafts,and the shiftingmechanism.Useengineoil or a spray lubricant.Referto Figure22. NOTE:Beforetippingthe unit on the front housing,run thefuel tank emptyso fueldoes notleak outof thefuel cap. 1. Carefullypivotthe snowthrowerup and forwardso that it restson theauger housing. 2. Removethe frame coverfrom the undersideof the snow thrower by removingthe self-tappingscrewswhich secureit. Referto Figure27. 3. Applya lightcoatingof engineoil (or 3-in-1oil) to the hexshaft. See Fig. 22. Wheels At leastoncea season,removebothwheels.Cleanand coat the axles with a multipurposeautomotivegreasebeforereinstallingwheels. Chute Directional Control Once a season,lubricatethe eyebolt bushingand the spiralwith 3-in-1 oil. Auger Shaft At leastoncea season,one at a time, removeall of theshearpins from the auger shaft.Spraylubricantinsidethe hub of eachauger spiralassemblyand aroundthe spacerson the augershaft. Greasefittings can alsobe foundat each end of the augershaft. Lubricatewith a greasegun oncea season.See Figure23. Gear Case The augergear case is equippedwith a greasefitting. Lubricatewith greaseoncea season(orderpart number737-0168).See Figure6-2. NOTE: Torelievepressure,removethe vent plug beforelubricatingthe gear case.See Figure23. Failureto do so could resultin damageto the gear case seals. Augers Eachof the auger spiralassembliesis securedto the spiralshaftwith a shearpin and cotter pin.If the augershouldstrikea foreignobjector ice jam, the snowthroweris designedso that the pinsmay shear. 1. If augersdo not turn, checkto seeif pinshavesheared. 2. Replacethe pinsif needed.Tworeplacementshearpinsand cotterpins havebeen providedwith the snowthrower.Sprayan oil lubricantintoshaft beforeinsertingnewpinsand securingwith newcotter pins.See Fig.23. NOTE: Be carefulnotto get any oil on thealuminumdrive plateor rubberfrictionwheel.Doingso will hinderthe snowthrower'sdrive system.Wipeoff anyexcessor spilledoil.
