To enable and disable system logging: Task Disable all logging except on the console. Disable logging to the logging buffer. Disable logging to terminal lines. Disable console logging. Command Syntax Command Mode no logging on no logging buffer no logging monitor no logging console CONFIGURATION CONFIGURATION CONFIGURATION CONFIGURATION Send System Messages to a Syslog Server To send system messages to a syslog server: Task Specify the server to which you want to send system messages. You can configure up to eight syslog servers. Command Syntax logging {ip-address | hostname} Command Mode CONFIGURATION Configure a Unix System as a Syslog Server Configure a UNIX system as a syslog server by adding the following lines to /etc/syslog.conf on the Unix system and assigning write permissions to the file. • on a 4.1 BSD UNIX system, add the line: local7.debugging /var/log/log7.log • on a 5.7 SunOS UNIX system, add the line: local7.debugging /var/adm/ftos.log In the lines above, local7 is the logging facility level and debugging is the severity level. Change System Logging Settings You can change the default settings of the system logging by changing the severity level and the storage location. The default is to log all messages up to debug level, that is, all system messages.
