Troubleshooting Diagnosing Problems There are a number of ways to diagnose printer problems:  To identify the most common problems, check the printer's lights; see Checking the Control Panel Lights for details.  You can also view the Printer Status window to identify common problems, if you installed Status Monitor 2 with Windows 95, 98, or NT 4.0. For instructions, see Using the Printer Status Window. On a Macintosh, you can check your ink levels using the Status Monitor; see Using the Macintosh Status Monitor for details.  To determine whether the problem is caused by the printer itself, run a printer operation check. See Running a Printer Operation Check for instructions.  If you see an error message about your printer settings or have problems with color quality, you may need to confirm your Printer ID number.
