Chapter 2: Getting Familiar with Your Notebook Passwords Passwords protect your notebook from unauthorized access. When set, no one can access your notebook without entering the correct password. There are three types of passwords you can set: ■ Setup Password secures your notebook against unauthorized entry to and use of the BIOS Setup utility. ■ Power-on Password secures your notebook against unauthorized use. ■ Hard Drive Password protects your data by preventing unauthorized access to your hard drive. Passwords
Passwords protect your notebook from unauthorized access. When set, no one
can access your notebook without entering the correct password.
There are three types of passwords you can set:
Setup Password secures your notebook against unauthorized entry to and
use of the BIOS Setup utility.
Power-on Password secures your notebook against unauthorized use.
Hard Drive Password protects your data by preventing unauthorized access
to your hard drive.
Setting a password
You can set the password using the BIOS Setup utility. See “BIOS Setup utility”
on page 77.
